Dairy of a Fox - Stay Classy
There is an amazing content creator I watch sometimes in the evening while I’m working on other things. There are a few other entertainers that this person regularly invites into VC with him, but it never detracts from the experience...until last night. Two new people were in the VC for the first time, They were friendly. They were chatty. They were self promoting literally every other minute, mentioning about how “Oh, btw, they we’re streaming right now as well” and “XXX has a soundbite of that on his channel, you should hear it.”
It was off putting and made them sound desperate for the extra views and/or follows. It was so distasteful (you can read that as frequent) that I left the channel, driven away by the endless self promoting.
The streamer I was there to watch is a classy fellow. He went on about his business, engaging them (or attempting to) in alternate conversation...which they inevitably circled back to mentioning, once again, their own streaming. Regardless, the person I was there to watch didn’t react to their advertising, carrying on with his planned activities without acknowledging the breach of etiquette.
Being the stand up person he is, the streamer had introduced them by handle when they first joined the VC, letting his followers and viewers know who was in the VC with him. For his consideration, he was rewarded with tacky behavior on his guests’ parts.
Moral of the story?
Don’t be that person. If you’re a guest on someone’s stream, they didn’t invite you there to ignore the fact that you stream. You don’t have to constantly remind them or their audience.
Stay classy.
