Hey, I saw that you did some figure drawing at the Society of Illustrators, and I was wondering if you enjoyed it there? I've been thinking about finding a place to do some figure drawing and I would like to know more about it, if you don't mind. Thanks!
I did! I just went to my second session, and I can say that is’a a really cool vibe. There’s live jazz (last week was freeform which sent me up a wall but this week was lovely) and a nice spread of times: ten 2-minutes; four 5-minutes; two 10-minutes; and then three different 20-minute poses. It’s fun to walk around and see the wide range of art being made, from charcoal on newsprint up to mini oil sets, and a wide gamut between.
The cons are, the last two times I’ve gone have been pretty crowded, and getting there 15 minutes before start time only got me a seat, not a good seat. There hasn’t been a huge range of body types yet, but again, I’ve only gone to two sessions. Toward the end the people at the bar were getting a bit loud in their conversation, too… but overall, I really like the feel of being surrounded by artists and the art on the walls alike, and I have some familiar faces from going to Society events semi-regularly.
(thursdays they have costumed models, but it costs a bit more and i really need to work on my nudes before i care to jump to costuming)
