Well, I named my cat Chita Rivera after the Broadway star, for a number of hilarious-at-the-time reasons but largely boiling down to the fact that my cat sings and dances and it’s a great cat name. I mean, it’s a great name in general, really, but in purely phonetic terms of sounds cats can hear, “Chita-chita” is a great way to attract a cat’s attention, and “Chita Rivera” has a phenomenal flow.

And so we introduce her that way. And so the vet wrote that down, Chita Rivera, two words. 

My last name is not Rivera! But it’s also complicated because my dude and I co-own her, and we do not have the same last name as one another either. And honestly I have no idea whether her last name should be his or mine! (Mine is at least way shorter.) It turns out the vet has me written down as the customer, because I must have been the one with the wallet when we first brought her in. (I think I was the one in the relationship with money, way back then... This most recent visit, I was the one holding her so Dude went up and tried to sign us in and they had no record of him at all.)

But she’s in their system just as Chita Rivera, under my account. Her pill bottles say Chita Rivera on them. 

I hope the real Chita Rivera wouldn’t be offended... I feel like she wouldn’t be, but I’ve never asked her.
