Too Busy? Really?
“ Americans work longer hours than most other nations, including a quarter more than Europeans (per Bloomberg), and they are often not shy about telling people. The phrase ‘I’m so busy’ is familiar to most American ears but using it recklessly and habitually could be detrimental to your personal and professional life. CNBC writes that for one it looks like you’re bragging and thus puts off people in your work and home life; second, everyone is busy, and could signal your inability to balance tasks; and, third, it could close doors when those around you assume you wouldn’t have time for that professional opportunity or that fun event. • Do you catch yourself telling people ‘you’re so busy’ when you don’t need to be” -Linked In
This is a huge trending topic on Linked In right now. Being that this IS my first post and haven’t paid much attention to my Tumblr, I felt it was only appropriate to talk about this subject. Now, at times, yes people can be legitimately busy and that’s perfectly normal. However when people fail to consistently prioritize their tasks, it does in fact show poor time management. I actually found a hilarious yet compelling article on texting and how you measure up to people depending on the time it takes for them to text you back, at the end of the article I didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry.... Haha... :/ Article here ---> https://tcat.tc/2GFkxZ4
So how do I try and prioritize my time? I try and say YES! I try to be the first to call people back whether it’s professional or personal and of course I try and balance my time the best way I can so everyone around me feels appreciated, but also leaving me with a bit of “Mike” time to play a video game, read a book or work on my photography/nerdy stuff.
Bottom line, if you are having issues with time, try not to commit to too much and don’t spread yourself too thin either because then you’ll have an angry boss, a large group of half ass projects and a small mob of incredibly annoyed friends and family!! Sometimes I wish time could be a commodity that could be bought but unfortunately it isn’t, It’s finite and fleeting. So YOU decide how you want to spend your time, with who you’d like to spend your time with.
