Winfield and Minnie Pearl the Love Letters: Part III
Some of the letters between the two were when Minnie Pearl Higley was attending the University of Chicago and staying in Foster Hall, studying to become a teacher while Winfield was helping with the family businesses in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Waukegan, Illinois.
Winnie is one of the young ladies pictured above, whoever noted on the back suspects she is the one on the lower left side.
This letter from Winnie is full of love from corner to corner.
βWhat is love, dear? I know now, better than I ever knew before. It is something that gets into oneβs very bones and makes him tremble all over when he thinks of a dear little girl that he loves better than life itself. If you were only here, now. We could sit here on the davenport, right up close, oh, so close, and I could put my face down in your dear neck, that is so soft and sweet, and you could put your arms tight around my neck, and then my sweetheart, how happy we would be. Forgive me dear, for all this. I am afraid it will make you all the more lonesome. But I am blue to-day, but will be better to-morrow, I will want you then, though, just as bad for, I love you! I love you!! I love you!!! Winnie.β
We have a folder of correspondence from Minnie to Winnie. Some are little notes she left while visiting him but the bulk of it is regarding the run-up to their wedding in the last half of 1916.
