I was looking for witchcraft guides on the internet and stumbled upon this wonderful book - Manual Of Cartomancy And Occult Divination - written by Grand Orient in 1909. THE ENGLISH METHOD OF FORTUNE-TELLING BY CARDS caught my eye, so this is a quick tutorial on how to know things you’re not supposed to. 

Here is how you would divine your future the ~english way~ according to the manual:

First, you need a deck of cards. Take the deck, shuffle the cards thoroughly, then cut the deck 3 times and lay them out, pictures up, in rows of 9 cards each. 

Next, select a king or queen to represent the person whose future you’d like to predict - the human card. If you’re predicting your future, choose a card that represents you, if someone else’s future/thoughts, choose the card that you think will fit them best. 

‘Count nine cards every way, reckoning it as one ; and every ninth card will prove the prophetic one.’ - says the book. So, take every 9th card, counting from the human card, both ways, out of the rows and place them aside. Do not change the order. You’ll get 6 prophetic cards, including your human card. (less if you have the deck with 36 cards)

Finally, understand what the future is trying to tell you. The interpretation is up to you, but here are the general meanings:
