It seems that even in the darkest of times, Halloween is a widely beloved holiday. Fear, panic, war, and death--all just inspiration for this year’s costumes. For a night, no one need be afraid. Perhaps because, for a night, you were disguised, no longer yourself, but one of the things to be afraid of. Or perhaps you are the beacon of light in these darkest of nights--you’re not dressed up to scare, but to become what you always wished to be. Whatever path you pick, it’s thanks to Halloween. 

Headmaster Dumbledore wanted to capitalize on this holiday--he declared a party. But there had to be more to it, didn’t there? Something to make it so anyone from anywhere could come together. The word disguise kept rolling through his head. And a spell came to mind. It was spell he could cast over the entire ballroom and disguise all the guests in it.

The spell was one that made you forget details even as you were taking them in. Everyone’s face, the distinctions in the sound of their voice...all forgotten even as you looked at them--even as you heard them speak. After the ball, you can remember the conversations you had and the costume they were wearing, but their face? Their voice? Anything to define who they were with sight, sound, smell? Impossible to recall. What’s left then? Just the person. And it was Dumbledore’s hope that this would melt away a few misguided biases and judgments. 

This event will last from Monday, August 13th until Saturday, August 18th, 12 p.m. MST--which is five days long. If you wish to tag your event posts--such as starters, costumes, other Halloween goodies--please tag them as Fortunate:Event004, as Fortunate:Event is only for the main to post in. BIRTHDAY EXTRAVAGANZA!

As a farewell to September two of Hogwarts most beloved students thought that, perhaps, it was time for a celebration--of surviving the first month of school, despite what’s going on outside Hogwarts walls, and for them having another year under their belts. They may be a year older, possibly wiser, but that doesn’t mean they’re not going to watch their birthdays go by without a big, stupid party! Frank Longbottom and Mary Macdonald may be from two very different background, but they’re coming together on the last day of September and want everyone else to do the same. 

This is a mini-event, meaning it is only 3 days long and characters are not required to participate--though it is strongly encouraged. Find any reason for your character to join in on the fun--even if it’s just that they wanted cake or the hope that there would be alcohol. The event will start Wednesday and go until the end of Friday, which is the last day of September in the roleplay’s timeline. 

A TRIP TO HOGSMEADE 

There had been some talk around the the school: weekend trips to Hogsmeade will be cancelled this year. With all the blood supremacy riots and other hate swimming in the air of the wizarding world, Dumbledore and many of the professor shared their concerns for the safety of the students. Even after classes had started, no one knew if or when they would be allowed to visit outside Hogwarts walls. The seventh years in particular were getting quite antsy. Eventually, a small group of students put together a signature form. With the vast majority of 3rd years and up signing it in under 3 days, Dumbledore was so moved by the unity the student body displayed that he decided to open the flood gates. But it came with a catch.

Each student that wishes to go on the Hogsmeade trip must wear a light-weight, enchanted wrist band that tracks the wearer’s location and monitors the safety of the wearer by detecting heart-rate, aggressive energy in the area, and any harmful spells that may be cast at the wearer. The wrist band is equipt with a minor protection spell. It can not hold off all attacks, and it wears down with each spell. It lasts just long enough for someone to be alerted to the attack and give them time to apparate into the area. 

The bands were made by extremely powerful witches and wizards. No student would be able to remove the enchantment nor remove the band. 

This event will last from Monday the 21st until Midnight Friday the 25th. Be sure to interact with everyone, involve your muses in things that they can only do in Hogsmeade so as to make things more exciting, and talk about the event outside of Hogwarts, the student petition, and the bands!

As she pored over the food and picked her way through various fruits and bit into a treacle tart, she turned to glance over the people having fun, not one of them seeming to be concerned with house or status; a turn to the person who had just moved up beside her and she spoke too quickly, nearly choking on her tart, “Everyone seems to be having a blast!”

This first event is going to be quite simple: the Start-of-Year Feast!

You’re seeing some of your friends--and enemies--again for the first time since you left for the summer. There’s loads to talk about, including bragging about summer trips, showing off new magical trinkets, and the winners of the Quidditch World Cup--the Irish National Quidditch team! Just as the feast is in full swing...dozens of notes flit down from the ceiling. It is the first of the fortune blasts that the students will get used to seeing. The note says “Hello, fellow students. My name is Miss Echo and, frankly, everywhere I look I see people keeping secrets and hiding themselves and losing their direction in life. So I’ve decided that this year would be the end of that. Each and every one of you has a fate that you simply cannot escape...and I’ve taken it upon myself to reveal those, with the help of my pretty little tarot cards. Let’s start out light--after all, we’ve got a long year ahead of us. So...Ted Tonks. I see in you The Star, Upright. Balance...pleasure...optimism...optimism, this is your key. Think I let little Teddy off easy? Wait until you see the other cards I’ve got up my sleeve. -- Miss Echo.” 

I put this event together quite quickly, so it is going to be a little loosey-goosey. Just feel out your muses and create connections with your fellow muns. Discuss their summers, discuss Quidditch, and have them react to the note from Miss Echo. The event will last until Midnight MST Friday the 11th.
