Ratchet looks at his hands. Rodimus thinks about belonging. Rewind finds his partner. Fort Max goes to sleep. Rung stays out late. Tailgate asks questions. Minimus stops working.
Together and apart; the crewmembers of the Lost Light.
When Ratchet ran out of patients to fix, he sat in his chair and looked at his hands. Of course, before he did that he cleaned all his equipment, checked his schedule for tomorrow, did inventory even though First Aid had already done it earlier, but then he sat and stared at his hands. What else could he do?
Tailgate had been in earlier. A check-up. As he had tuned out the minibot’s usual chatter (he vaguely remembered bits of questions like “If you really wanted could you be a mechanic too? Or is it too different? Like, if you opened me up and opened up the Lost Light’s nav board would you be able to tell the difference? Besides, like, the spark and stuff, I mean-”), he had taken note of something. Tailgate’s systems were ancient—if he were human he’d compare them to being steam-powered. Ratchet had already replaced half his parts, and yet the bot still complained of transforming slowly. Some days he would come limping in with or without Cyclonus by his side, asking for painkillers in a small voice that always struck Ratchet as profoundly wrong. Those days, Ratchet gave him the doses he knew were most effective from experience.
But as he had fruitlessly tried to keep Tailgate from fidgeting as he poked around inside his chest cavity, his hands locked up.
