He’d been a bargaining chip in the game as long as he remembered, no matter what originally motivated his father to start them both off on this perilous journey. And he had been used again and again against people - his father, so he would complete his research; other Grisha, so they could die as mere lab rats; himself, so he would betray his values and continue that rotten work.

Yet even when he wanted to stop, he knew others would just try to recreate what was already set loose. Once you opened Pandora’s box, there was no turning back.

So, he stalled and brought time and wished. Wished for a fairytale rescue so he could become the hero of his own life instead of a mere puppet that faceless governments tried to pull on venomous strings.

Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine the band of misfits that broke into his ice prison to offer him a chance for a new beginning, even if they still only saw him as his father’s son.

But if they proved to be different, if they could truly see beyond the bargaining chip and see Song Mingi, then he would prove to them he was his own person with a fiery passion for more.
