I love Kirby very much and I like the forest level music.
Part of the background to the forest level of my game, I am basing this pixel art on my hikes in Ontario’s Bruce Trail. Giant stone weapons are just imagined, or are they..?
Wizards and Warriors II: Ironbeer.
Made another. This one’s harder.

Some Famous Forest Levels!
The forest level is often considered the starting point of many games. Fantasy games such as The Legend of Zelda often open in or near a forest themed level. Forest levels can be considered the beginners zone. They tend to focus on general gameplay and exploration as opposed to the combat oriented fire levels of puzzle oriented water levels, but this isnt always the case. A forest can be cheerful or spooky, hers some famous forest levels from video games.
Faron woods –The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess Twilight Princess as a whole is a great game, and the first hours of the game take place in a lush forest. The Faron woods hoods many landmarks, the starting town, the first dungeon, even the home of the master sword! These woods serve as a tutorial on both human and wolf link’s combat skills. The music is calming and the layout is relatively simple. The first dungeon in this game gives a good example on what to expect from the Twilight Princess Dungeons. It is also home to the first hero’s shade tutorial. Overall it is a basic level, but can be very fun to explore, even the twilight version is fun to explore as wolf Link. The music is calming, and it sets up what’s to come later on.
Eterna Forest– Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl Eterna forest is a quiet, peaceful forest found in the sinnoh region of the pokemon world. The forest is visited somewhat earlier in the game and you will learn of double battles here. Like most early game forest, the main type here is the bug type. Also present is a special stone that will allow an eevee to evolve into a leafeon. However, the main location in this forest is the old Chateau, a long abandoned haunted mansion filled with ghost pokemon, actual lost souls of humans and several other paranormal events, spooky. Overall the forest gives a relaxing feeling, but at the same time the dark and quiet nature makes it eerie as well, similar to being in the middle of an actual forest.
The Forest – Slender the eight pages Who doesn’t know about Slenderman? Granted he is not nearly as relevant now as he was 6 years ago but his game was still famous enough. A simple concept, you are placed inside a forest, probably from a state park or something comparable to the like. You are tasked with recovering 8 notebook pages sprawled out in the woods. The forest has some odd landmarks, such as a hollowed out bathroom, a tunnel, a plus shaped brick fence and so on. As your exploring the forest in the dead of night, you are stalked by the Slenderman, and with each page you find, he gets more and more aggressive. Eventually, whether you find them all or not, he will get you.
Treetops – Pac Man World 2 The Treetops is the second world of Pac Man World 2, set high above the forest floor, a series of platforms, nets and bounce pads litter the canopies of the forest for Pac Man to explore. While these levels house many goodies, they are also full of many deadly traps, the difficulty really begins to spike here with some traps almost unavoidable. This level is atmospheric, with nice music and a wonderful night sky to bounce up into. This level will test your platforming skills, as there are many bottomless pits that you can very easily fall into with a misplaced jump, or unfortunate knockback deaths. The boss of this level is fairly challenging as well, requiring pac man use all his abilities to defeat. I overall consider this the best world in the game.
Darkroot Garden – Dark Souls One of the early areas of Dark Souls, Darkroot garden is a relatively large area that serves as both an early game and late game area. The garden is a contrast to the undead burg, a poorly lit forest that seems to be diluted in time, it is night in the forest, but daytime in the nearby town, giving a nice contrast. The forest is home to many dangers, demonic plants, living statues, mushroom people and a trio of bloodthirst cats. The player can visit the garden early on to hunt down a blacksmith’s ember, guarded by a boss known as the moonlight butterfly. The forest also serves as an important place for the lore of Dark Souls, as it houses the grave of one of Gwyn’s four knights. While the ember is optional, the grave requires a visit to complete the game. Beware, for the grave is guarded by not only a covenant that despises outsiders, but also a loyal wolf named sif, guarding the grave of its master.
Tselinoyarsk – Metal Gear Solid 3 This forest serves as the main setting for the majority of Snake Eater. It is expansive and full of danger. Its home to secret bases, deep ravines, large rivers, swamps, caves and so on. Naked Snake, also known as Big Boss needs to infiltrate this forest of Russia to complete the operation. His opposition is not only Russian soldiers, but Revolver Ocelot, The deadly Cobra Unit, the power-hungry Col. Volgan and even his former mentor. This forest has many places to hide and houses many opportunities to get the jump on your opponent, but beware, because they might just get the jump on you as well…
Quiet Forest – Kirby 64 the crystal shards The quiet forest is a short level, and there isn’t much special about it, it’s a very basic level. However, it takes on the form of a beautiful autumn forest. The music is lovely and calming and the overall feel is that of a relaxing stroll through a forest. While compared to the other forest on this list this one is basic and short, with the biggest turn being the fact that a part of the level is in a giant tree, it is still a lovely relaxing level.
Unnamed Forest – Limbo This forest is also a quiet forest, but by no means a pleasant one. The forest of Limbo is one full of hazards and death traps. Bear traps, crushing boulders, and a giant man-eating spider are among the horrors that can be found in these woods. While in most games, forest tend to be portrayed as a lush peaceful environment, full of pleasant music and life, the forest of limbo is bleak and full of dread. A totally desolate woodland that sets the theme for Limbo.
Macalania woods– Final Fantasy X One of the most unique looking forest on the list. The Macalania forest incorporates crystal and ice elements into its design as well. It servers as an important location on Final Fantasy X, as it is home to the Aeon Shiva and is the place where Tidus and Yuna reveal their feelings for each other in a rather beautiful scene. This forest makes its way on the list due to its sheer beauty. It returns in X-2 and plays a mild role in a sub story of the game involving a species called the Guado. This place is also home to some deadly monsters, including the incredibly dangerous gel species of enemies.
The Forest of Illusion – Super Mario World The original forest maze of the Mario series. The forest of illusion is a mystifying forest level found in super Mario world. It seems impossible to escape, you have to find a secret exit to escape this forest maze. As for the forest itself, it is home to many enemies including Lakitus, a boo house, a switch palace, and the palace of one of the seven koopalings, Roy. A guide should be used to escape the forest maze, as beating the levels normally will get you nowhere.
Living Forest – Mortal Kombat One of the most famous stages of the Mortal Kombat series. This forest is not located on earth, but rather in the outworld. It is home to trees with human faces, and these trees hunger for flesh. While in most games the forest is just a simple stage, the game “shaolin monks’ shows that the forest is quite expansive and is the home of Reptile’s lair. Overall, while there is not much lore behind this forest, it is a dangerous place, very fitting for the brutal fights of Mortal Kombat.
Leaf Storm – Sonic Rush The first stage of the somewhat underrated sonic rush. This serves as the start for both Sonic and Blaze. A standard forest level with vines, loops and giant trees. This level easily allows high speed action, enemies aren’t as common as they are on later stages and the overall stage is fun and enjoyable. The boss is a basic challenge. The music is fine and it serves as a good way to get the player used to the way the game is supposed to be played and what to suspect with levels and bosses later on in the game. Kinda funny that Blaze doesn’t set the forest on fire isn’t it?
Sting Chameleons’ Forest – Mega Man X The maverick Sting Chameleon has found himself a home in a metallic forest. This stage, while not very long is home to some nice spoils, such as a new armor and a health upgrade. You’ll go through caves, up hill sides, avoid falling rocks, and even ride in a giant armor mech suit through a swamp to get to the boss at the end of the level. Eventually you will find Sting Chameleon inside a giant tree, and be ready to fight one of the harder, if not the hardest maverick in the game! I hope you know his weakness!
Some super-basic forest level action! We have swarm-intelligence wasps that sting you and music by the awesome Super Marcato Brothers. This isn’t a complete level by any means, just a test to see what kind of creatures and mechanics we need to make next. :-D
anybody wanna play the snk tribute game?
