Forest Fringe 2015 Week 2 Highlights

"All that really happens is a depressed 33-year-old watches a video tape."--Ross Sutherland Sutherland's self-deprecation is just another layer to his intricately structured and dense experimental work, Stand By for Tape Back-Up which played at the Forest Fringe in August.  He mixed spoken word, looping video, and an affinity for 80's movie and TV culture and created a personal, funny, and moving work that was complex, smart, and sometimes a little overwhelming (in the best possible way).

Edinburgh has never been on the cards for us in the past because of the massive costs involved being unfeasible for a company as small as us but this year we're going to be involved thanks to the brilliant 'Forest Fringe'. Its a neat idea that means companies can perform for free and outside the competitive meat market that is the Fringe. We'll be there for a few days performing a work-in-progress of our as yet un-named new piece that we showed an initial sketch of at Arnolfini's 'I am your Worst Nightmare' (the re-enaction of Evel Knievel's 1967 Caesar's Palace jump). The nature of the Forest Fringe means we can spend some time working on the show and show it in front of a good natured, thrill-seeking Edinburgh audience without the horrible pressures and financial commitments that go with a normal Edinburgh show. Although I've been to Edinburgh as an audience member quite a lot I've never performed there and I've often noted how it really lacks an actual 'Fringe' in the truest experimental sense of the word, which is a shame considering how many audience members there are there eager for new and exciting work so hopefully the Forest Fringe can change all that. We're doing a VERY short VERY loud performance at the Forest Fringe Microfestival at Bristol Old Vic in May. The festival itself will be brilliant so I recommend you come along and see everything that's happening anyway but would also be lovely if you found your way to our little showing. Its part of a project called Mixtape which is done by Unlimited Theatre. They have selected some artists to pick a song they like and set some action to it and one day all the pieces will be performed together and the songs will make a mixtape. Its a very lovely idea and we've chosen 'Bright tomorrow' by Fuck Buttons as our song. Some of the ideas we've been working on may also find their way into our 'Frontman' project as well. So do come along and give us your feedback. The micro-festival is on May 8th and 9th at Bristol Old Vic (its part of Mayfest which is also a brilliant festival well worth coming to experience). We won't know exactly when our piece will show until nearer the time but as I say, come along to the whole event anyway, pick up a brochure and it will tell you when we're on. See you there xx
