@vitunhienokivi submitted: Hello! I was wondering if you could ID this lovely fella (maybe a stink bug?), found in eastern Finland! It was climbing on me and then fell when I accidentally swiped it a little. It seemed a little surprised but then kept going about it's bugly business!
Hello! Yes, definitely a stink bug. Stink bugs are pretty tough so a little swipe won't have hurt it at all. This fella is a forest bug, Pentatoma rufipes.
Forest Bug/Red-legged shieldbug (Rotbeinige Baumwanze, Pentatoma rufipes). The genus name Pentatoma refers to the five segments of the antennae (as for all species in the family Pentatomidae), from Greek πέντε (five) and τόμος (section). The species epiphet rufipes means red-footed, from Latin rufus (red) and pes (foot).
forest bug :]
forest bug question
hey bugblr, i have question. So I recently met a cute little forest bug or pentatoma rufipes by their latin name. The little guy was really fun so I started looking them up and was interested in their life cycle, they turn white at one point so I’m curious if anyone had the reason why? Please let me know!

@dreamlikequality submitted: Here's a cute shield/stink(?)bug. Pentatoma rufipes is my best guess? They had a missing leg. 😔
Taken in Ireland!
Yep, your ID looks right! They’re commonly called forest bugs, but they are indeed a type of stink/shield bug. They can get along just fine even if missing a leg! So no worries :)
