If anyone were to ask Jasper about thisĀ E.Ā X. A. C. T. moment, heād probably lie. He was never one for the high romantic sort of stuff. Something that looks like it should be on the cover of a romance novel; some dude probably shirtless, windswept hair, an arm curled protectively around a swooning damsel. That wasnāt his style.Ā
And honestly, it was just another day. He was in his friendly neighborhood coffee shop with his laptop situated neatly in front of him as he dragged on through basic education college class at 24 god-damn-years-old. His black and tan mottled shepherd stayed curled at his feet with his head on his paws. It was a very normal Tuesday, thanks.Ā
When she walked in, he didnāt even look up at first. But the flash of a sundress caught in his peripherals and green-gray eyes flickered forward and he caught sight of probably the most gorgeous girl heās ever had the pleasure of seeing.
It was a cliche; heāll deny that his breath caught in his throat, heart probably skipped a couple of beats.
His palms rubbed against the fabric of his jeans, up and down, feeling the rough scratch of fabric against his skin. He could go and pretend to be waiting for a drink, strike up a conversation. Could go offer to buy her drink for her ( but would that be weird? )
Before he knew it, the german shepherd was pressing his face against his knee, making a soft whining noise in the back of his throat, tail thumping softly. Jasperās movementās paused, and he reached down to pet him, only for the dog to leap up and lick at his face.Ā ā--Argo, Argo, Argo Iām fine--ā he puffed, scratching at the dogās ears while also making an att empt to push the big dog down.Ā āIām okay, really--ā
He managed to get his service dog down, and slowly stood up from the cushioned bench seat he was on. His cane was leaning against the table, but he didnāt take it. He straightened himself up, smoothed out his rumpled looking graphic tee, and tried to walk without his limp towards the bar.
Two years out of the military, and he was still in decent shape. He did a decent amount of exercise despite his messed up leg, still looked like maybe he could l be in command at any moment.Ā
Until he stumbled. Losing his focus on taking deliberate steps, his bad leg caught just in the right spot, and he went falling forward, stumbling and crashing into the girl in the sundress.
Fucking hell, Jas, look what youāve done now?
