FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD: BORING. edd is part of a branch family of house tollett, and he grows up in poverty. he’s a squire by the time yoren recruits him, but if he’d never gone to the watch, he would’ve continued down the life his house would’ve wanted from him. edd would’ve married a nice girl picked for him by his family; he would’ve fulfilled his duty to her and given her children. he would’ve been a good squire and a decent swordsman; maybe, eventually, he would’ve become a knight. it wouldn’t be glamorous, and while he somewhat regrets joining the night’s watch, it’s better than the vale.
