My character Santher (triton wizard) has uncovered the secrets to activating a strange device that calls itself Sojourn Of a Distant Star, and she completed the ritual to bring it online. Sojourn is like a... navigational tool/pilot for ship like vehicles, and the vibe is very spacey, not so much nautical.
We are en route to another character' s backstory quest, and to get there, we synced Sojourn up with our folding boat, and now it's extra magical and self-driving with Sojourn at the wheel. We've made it out from the River Chionthar and are sailing North up the Sword Coast. We're a couple days out from Baldur's Gate at this point, and we got ambushed in the middle of the night.
We picked up at the start of initiative tonight and it is NOT looking good for us LMAO. We are being attacked by what I can only assume is a Sahaguin kill squad that is apparently after Santher?? They are brutal.
There are a handful of Sahaguin casters both on and off the boat, a bunch of regular fighters on the boat, and a swordmaster of sorts. There's also a big, four armed guy aboard as well. Our positioning started out tough, given 3/4 of us had been sleeping, and we basically woke up to the big guy busting into the sleeping quarters.
Santher was able to Temporally Shunt the big guy away for a couple of rounds while we worked through dealing with the others and improving our positions. But on top of all that, there was also a whirlpool getting summoned around us by the off-ship casters.
Our hexblade was downed, and the Sahaguin made sure he stayed down. RIP Dez. Without his protection, Santher tried a banishment on the big guy once he came back from his final shunting, but he saved. She promptly got grappled and then shackled with anti-magic manacles. We ended tonight with it seeming like they now have what they came for and are trying to leave with her.
I was NOT expecting her backstory to catch up to her at this moment, but it also makes so much sense since it's her first time properly back in the Sea of Swords since she left. If what I think is happening is actually happening, and the Great Padisha has finally found her, then she's going to be in for a bad time if she is actually captured. It's frightening to think that they're taking her alive... Hopefully, though, we can keep Santher from getting abducted and then get our warlock back on his feet. This has been legitimately the scariest combat we've faced so far, but hey, that's level 10, I guess 🤣 the stakes!!!
