I am going to share the crux of it with my daughters, 12 & 9yrs, because it’s important and unfortunately, so true. We have learnt to accept the absurdity of the ridiculous external standards imposed upon the female gender vis a vis “acceptable” physical appearance as it has become hyper-normalized. I love the specific statement in the article that brings this fact home. When I get asked questions about the color of our skin and the inches around our hips, by those we love the most; in formulating the answers in when we discover the inherent prejudices we have been doused with since we could think about what was acceptable and what was just NOT. The opening paragraph of the article is enough to bring tears to ones eyes, when you consider how few of the worlds female population would be able to happily live up to the impossible standards that Photoshop has set for us. There are so many bigger issues to solve then the extra eyebrow hair on our left brow or the chipped nail. We need to take care of our inner selves; focus on our overall wellness, not just the physical aspect of it. It’s a whole that creates a synergy which doesn’t come about if split out into parts. BE WHOLE. Life is so fleeting. One breath we are living and the next split second, we can cease to exist. Make the breath count. Make each breath count. Every second. Every sigh. Every teeny tiny sliver of time granted to us by the Almighty’s grace. And that’s the measure of a life. Your life. Regardless of which species of the phylum you are categorized into.
