Nokt: Was basically nothing but weapon since he was a young child because of being born in a warrior culture and so he could protect his sister. Except for his bond with Rox(and to a lesser extent Zarkt), he might as well have been a brutal but empty shell wielded by the adults around him.

Rox: She should have been killed for the crime of being born wrong(erythrism). Fortunatly for her, Nokt was a protective older brother since he was a toddler, so she was left alive to serve as leverage over him. Unfortunatly, this meant that she was keenly aware for her entire life that everyone wanted her dead and that she had no influnce on whether she lived or died. As one might imagine, that let to her being constantly afraid.

Zarkt: Being born with melanism lead to her being designated as the scapegoat, a bad luck charm. No matter what happened, people would blame her, contrary evidence be damned. Unsuprisingly, this lead to her actively causing problems for others and reveling in their misfortunes.

Kur: Degenerative disease. As she was growing older, it kept developing and with it, the people around started treating her with less and less respect until she was basically stripped of all autonomy. Her respect for others died a slow death by a thousand cuts.

Drix: The only one here that actually had a good relationship with her family and community. She was even a little ringleader type, commanding other kids with great skill and annoying the adults with such unruly swarms. The only time she didn't have others by her side, she had to flee for her life as her entire world burned.
