Forbes Magazine recently minted Haynes as one of its 30 Under 30 artists, citing her background in fine art, design and illustration. Her work is inspired by figurative artists including Henri Matisse, Richard Diebenkorn, Marlene Dumas and Wangechi Mutu. Haynes makes gouache paintings and collages that depict the experiences of African-American women. . Having recently returned from the inaugural class of Kehinde Wiley’s Black Rock Senegal Residency in Dakar, Senegal, Grace was selected as one of 16 artists from over 700, hand-picked by art world luminaries: Thelma Golden, Carrie Mae Weems, Mickalene Thomas & Swizz Beats. . Haynes, originally from Los Angeles, creates artwork that has its roots in exploring the intersectionality between "culture, color, femininity, and the African diaspora" writ large. In Haynes’ work, black appears aspirational, dignified, and sublime. The result is a network of images addressing complex topics and stereotypes surrounding black femininity. .
