Do not take this seriously this was another silly fic thing. Sharing for @asmalltimewriter so everyone else feel free to ignore
Light had not yet begun to stream into their bedroom before KING had decided he was fully recharged. A fact made evident when he revved his smaller engine in anticipation and shook the bed beneath his weight. He pawed restlessly at the sheets with his front tires as he rose on his springs to greet the day. KARR gave a muffled, tired groan and shifted his form as if to sink back into his hibernation mode. Off to KING’s other side Garthe was likewise groaning, but unlike KARR he was human, and could not program himself to shut off again. KING was the proverbial alarm clock Garthe had to obey.
“Alright, alright.” Garthe stretched with a yawn, KING making happy exhaling puffs at the success of rousing one of his fathers from their rest. His human father was often the easiest to rouse, but KING took his successes where he could get them.
With a great yawn and bone popping stretch, Garthe made preparations to abide by his son's need to rise with the sun. KING wiggled in anticipation as his father gave one more great yawn like some sleepy lion before he lavished his son with morning affection.
"Why must you always wake me so early?" Garthe playfully scolded as he reached out to pat his son. He did not fully expect an answer, so KING provided none save his happy puffing noises.
"Alright, c'mon."
Garthe sidled out of bed with KING quick to follow behind, tires making soft noises like the padding of feet.
"Why can't you wake up your other dad for once, huh." And thus the morning rituals took their usual accordance as KING watched his father stalk into the adjacent kitchen to begin his morning. KING knew his human dad liked to brew this dark drink that always made him more alert--before he tried to accomplish anything.
"Man's gotta get his coffee first, son," KING recalled his father's sage words in the beginning. KING hardly grasped this concept, but reserved it in his data logs all the same to please his father in some future event.
So KING settled himself to watch as his father fiddled with some complicated tech as it came to life with a cheery beep. He rather liked the weird machine as it emitted chirps within several intervals and spewed out some dark liquid that filled the room with its wafting scent. KING was easily fascinated by this weird contraption and always sat on his tires to observe the coffee maker in action--scanning it on several occasions to satisfy some of his curiosity.
The machine beeped with a perky fanfare before Garthe regarded it again. He made a murmur of approval at the jingle. With the same sluggish motion that started his day, he reached for a mug in a cabinet and poured himself his dark brew. He took a moment to savor the warm drink and gave a content sigh indicating he was ready to face the day. Or at least attempt it, as he was still tired looking when he set his mug down, KING sitting on his tires and watching the whole time.
Garthe sleepily walked around his son as he began to prepare his breakfast next, pots and pans messed with while KING sat patiently to observe this familiar action with the same sense of awe and wonder. The man all but lumbered with the gait of a zombie, scratching at his belly beneath his white cotton shirt and above really short shorts. Still he did his tasks unimpeded and KING observed every step of the way.
His dad did his morning shuffle all the same: coffee maker running, he would retrieve a small pan from its lower level pantry. That out and on the stove, the sluggish pattern continued to include fetching a carton of weird orb things KING learned were called eggs--something babies came from! He wondered if he was a product of these mini orbs, but it only took an internal scan of his databanks to conclude that, no, he was not of reptilian or avian descent. His human father, however, was a mammal. And KING had learned that there was only one mammal that could lay eggs: the platypus. That's what Benedict had said at least. So his human donor made for an unlikely candidate and one not coded for egg laying either.
He was mulling this over as his dad worked about warming the stove. Pan set on one warmer, the man began lathering the skillet with butter KING had missed seeing his father grab while he was fixating on the eggs.
Garthe gave a great yawn, cracking several eggs and throwing the shells into a garbage can nearby.
"How many you want, bud?"
KING always found it delightful to be included in his parents' decisions and rituals. He had no need for human sustenance really, but KING loved how his dad would smile when he served him human food.
KING waggled mutedly and uncoiled his internal feeding cord to point at the egg carton five times in rapid succession.
"Jesus. Feeding you is like feeding a kid."
KING preened, knowing full well his dad was not truly incensed by his interest in food. If anything he could measure the pride in his paternal unit for his growth and interest in food everyday. He was still fawning over his father's love when he moved from his observing slouch to crawl over and rest his front tire along the man's leg, mindful not to run over his toes. He had done this action enough times to not disturb the man, and as usual, Garthe would trade fiddling with a utensil to stroke idly over his son's warm hood lovingly throughout his task.
KING let out an eased sigh, contentment washing over him as the room filled with the scent of breakfast and the promise of a hearty meal. It filled him with a warmth and comfort his family unit gave to his very core and server.
Garthe seldom moved so as not to dislodge his son--a prospect he really could not achieve without any real force any ways. Though at one point the man had tapped his son's mirror to encourage him to step back and allow him to go riffle through his fridge once more for bacon.
"Bacon is the key to happiness, kid." More wise words KING had quickly stored in his backlogs should he need. He ate up all of his dad's lessons, no matter how trivial, for he wished for approval from this man, if not to also appease him in some future event.
The familiar hiss of bacon sliding over the heated skillet had KING waggle his tail end in anticipation. The eggs had already been traded to their designated plates, and KING knew the cooking meat was an alarm of its own kind. It would herald the arrival of the rest of his family.
Goliath was the first to stir, the great lumbering semi unable to enter the house, but pacing outside its parameters eagerly all the same. He, like KING, did not need to partake in the banal affair of human consumption--save the ingestion of petroleum, a non-consumable product for humans. Yet like KING he reveled in the feeling of unity and closeness it stirred in his engine by keeping with the activities of his family.
"I got you, I got you…" Garthe mumbled towards the window that spewed in the rays of morning light, as well as the shadows of a pacing semi rumbling quietly outside it. Great lumbering giant he was, each passing Goliath made by the window cast a shadow through the light filtering in.
King chuckled silently in good humor to this behemoth of an uncle casting his immense form by the window. Garthe took a moment to share in his son's high spirits, likewise watching each pass of Goliath's mighty hull.
"Every day," Garthe murmured so softly KING almost missed the words filter through his auditory receptors. What he could make out, however, was the calm drawl of his father's tone, the rich timber of it soothing him.
With practiced ease, Garthe retrieved the still sizzling pan from off the stove, brought it with him as he opened the kitchen window, and tossed the still sizzling meat outside for Goliath to consume. King had no suitable data to show how the semi consumed his meal, but he had evidence showing it was done all the same. That proof being a lack of evidence in itself! There were never any crumbs showing uneaten food…
KING knew to wait his turn for his own meal, but could not help popping out his lights in a pleading gesture to ensure his father hastened in his chore.
"Stop," Garthe chided, an amused note seeping in. KING huffed but obeyed all the same as he tucked his lights back into storage. When his dad returned to the stove for their portion of their morning meal, KING delicately plopped back to his spot at his father's side. Content to resume his watch over the early affair, KING gave a sigh to his engine and settled along his father's leg mindful to not crush him.
The tranquility of this gesture, steady hiss of meat transferring to and from the skillet, his father's own measured motions as he worked, even the imperceptible rumble of Goliath just outside loitering--all of it culminated to making KING wish to shut down again, to nap. Fortunately he was spared from catering to his more human desires by the arrival of the last member of the household.
KARR made a languid, lazy roll from the bedroom straight to the kitchen to the sight of his lover and son in their usual morning motions. Like fine tuned machinery, father and son slotted along one another perfectly, KING lazing about his spot contently as Garthe continued to work unperturbed.
"Hey babe," Garthe addressed his lover, back still turned towards him as he transferred yet another batch of cooked bacon to an awaiting plate. KARR approached his son first for an affectionate nuzzle.
As the Pontiacs traded their love, KING thought of his parents and their own bond. It often awed the smaller Pontiac how his human father knew where KARR was, or when he would rise--especially given Garthe was human. And thus lacked any tech that could serve as a scanner. KING's scans had deduced as much to confirm this lack of a component. KING had checked on numerous occasions like this…
Still, a joy welled up in his motor every time he witnessed his fathers trade their own affection. Their repetitive rituals extended to this awe and warmth KING got from their interactions.
KARR, satisfied he had doled ample amounts of love upon his son, turned those same affections upon Garthe next. The larger Firebird pressed into his lover, occupying the spot not taken by a lounging KING. A sluggish purr emitted from his voice emulator as he addressed the man. The tone replicated that of a person still in the throes of sleepiness, a tired feeling KARR certainly lacked given his completed charge.
Or, as KING rationalized it, maybe his father did so intentionally to draw his human dad's attention. This theory was supported by the sudden redness filling out the brunet's cheeks as KARR purred.
"One of these days," the voice box drawled lazily. "I would relish the visual of you only in an apron. My eyes only."
"KARR," was the scandalized response.
KING happily ate up the sight of his flustered parent, happy to watch what he knew would happen.
Still addled and affected by the sound of his lover, Garthe would get distracted--and rightly so given the illustrious glimmer the morning light streaming in gave KARR's rich coat. The sight alone triggered all manner of rampant emotions within the man, and with it still being early…
KING continued to watch, not daring to intervene with what he knew was to occur as KARR pressed further into his agitated lover. The motion forced Garthe to lose his focus and trade it to solely observing KARR alone, back now to the stove.
[[//10...9...8..]]
A mini countdown loaded onto KING's screen then, and still he did not budge, his timer continuing its tick.
"KARR, c'mon, KING is right there."
[[//...7...6...5…]]
"And I have done nothing sordid to warrant sending him away--yet."
A squeak.
[[//...4...3...2…]]
"Babe not--wait...you smell--?"
[[//...1--]]
An angry, high pitched cry of a fire alarm tore the couple from their amorous play.
"Shit!" Garthe's expletive pierced through even the shrill shriek of the continual beeping. Sensing, and even pitying, his father's duress, KING closed his timer and traded it for accessing his internal programming. From within his server he configured the necessary files and--silence. The alarm died off with a last droning scream.
Amid the ensuing chaos that followed, Garthe made a mad grab for the burning meat, still smoking away, and rushed to the window where Goliath was stationed expectantly. Neither KARR nor KING were in his way as they both had shrunk back, KARR with surprise and KING with the expectancy of the motion needed of him. Window opened, the burnt meat was tossed outside...and into the awaiting fuel converter of Goliath.
"Pleh!" The semi sputtered just as Garthe sagged in relief against the kitchen counter and limply relinquished his hold of the still hot pan into the sink. "Jesus " Garthe groaned from his slumped resting place. The moisture within the sink left the pan to fizzle and hiss as it cooled. The window remained open for extra measure.
"I guess an apron would necessitate a lack of food prepping on your behalf." KARR amended to the now quiet room, the soft, dying hiss of heat to water the only sound.
KING chortled briefly at the man's misery, unphased by Garthe's dramatics and knowing full well the man was unharmed and safe.
Garthe propped himself onto his elbows, scowl on his lips, sagging even his mustache, and directed it to where KARR was now rubbing along his son with affection.
Unrepentant KARR snuggled along his son's side fender once more before addressing him.
"Breakfast is done little one."
Garthe rolled his eyes, but did not object, lifting himself to full height and off his elbows.
"Every. Damn. Time."
As Garthe grounded this out under his breath, he set about gathering the plates ladened with the edible meat and fixing them for each family member. He was not as incensed as he pretended to be or sounded, so KING rocked back and forth upon his tires patiently for his father to serve their meal.
KARR tucked along his son one last time before following his lover to his modest dining room table. A quaint round table that lacked the luxurious grandeur of the rest of the room. It added to the homey appeal of the moment. KING ambled behind his parents as Garthe set the table, plates in their designated spots.
"Yours," Garthe laid out one plate before KARR's preferred spot, "Yours," for KING's, "And mine." He proclaimed this last bit with a trace of smug decree as he sat himself in his spot.
KARR always humored his partner when it came to these more mundane human tasks. The AI had no need for food, like his son, but he could convert carbohydrates and fatty acids into a usable fuel source. This father and son shared in common as well. So KARR unlatched a tucked away port to accept his own meal.
KING unhooked his cord to grab at his various morsels and stow them into his own fuel converter. This modification, sadly, KARR did not share with his son, but he could rely on Garthe to serve him his treats. The AI hardly begrudged this reliance and was generally complacent with the action. Plus, KING happily thought as he ingested his newest source of fueling, his fathers loved to pamper one another.
As the trio ate in amicable silence, Garthe traded his own consumption to hand feed his lover. Although he did need to rise once more to retrieve his own eating utensils, as he had forgotten to do so before sitting at the table.
Yes, KING reveled gleefully between "munches," he loved his morning customs. The calm and loving air, his uncle awaiting them outside patiently to start their day, the way his human dad would sneak loving glances to KARR…
This was home. KING felt the reassuring embrace of their unity within this room, and he never had any desire for anything else. He was happy, he was content, and he was loved. Best of all he was home with the ones he loved most.
