q: what is a "click"? how long is it?
a: probably about 53 minutes.
both obi-wan and anakin indicate that about seven clicks can be referred to as "all night".
for us, a klick is another term for kilometre. looking, briefly, at the time periods prefixed by kilo- gives us the kiloyear (a millennium), the kilominute (16h, 40m), and the kilosecond (16m, 40s). for obvious reasons, a gffa click cannot be any of these. the first two are too long and seven kiloseconds gives only 1h, 56m, 28s. definitely not âall night.â
it's most likely the amount of time indicated by the final digit in the eight-digit date format of the coruscant reckoning calendar.
e.g. 7955.442.1 <- it's the .1
the first four indicating the year, the second four indicating how much of the year has passed, by percentage. originally, at least, until the andor-fication of the calendar[1]. each day is 1/368th of the time it takes coruscant to orbit its sun, and thus, approximately, is 2.7% of the year[2]. the first day of the year would be recorded as 7955.000.0 and the second as 7955.002.7. this puts each standard day at a smidge over 27 "clicks" long.
an hour is approximately 0.1132% of the year, which means the closest equivalencies of hours and "clicks" happen at 08:00 and 23:00.
08:00 = 7955.000.906
23:00 = 7955.002.604
thus, each "click", each tick over of the crc, each 0.1% of the year, is 53 minutes.
anakin has been dodging obi-wan and the high council for approximately 371 minutes, or 6h, 11m. very much âall night.â

the andor-fication of the crc simplifies it down to the numbers after the decimal equating to how many days of the year have passed, as seen in the way clem andorâs birthdate of 7896.39.5 is recorded and, in the glass abyss, the placing of mace winduâs birthdate at 7905.355. respectively, they would be c. 7896.103.9, halfway through the 39th day of the year, and c. 7905.962.0, the 355th day of the year.
each day is fully 2.71739% of the year, with the subsequent digits being necessary to keep the whole thing from being thrown off track.
yes, the corsucant reckoning calendar is done on a 368-day year. the dates given in scum & villainy, the first and, unfortunately, only showing of the crc in its original, extended format, do break down to the year being 368 days, make up of 10 months of 35 days each, with the 3 fĂȘte weeks & 3 fĂȘte days. itâs also obliquely evidenced by star wars propaganda: a history of persuasive art in the galaxy having amidalaâs coronation on the 34th day of grizm in the 835th year of kwilaan.

the base of the temple and thus the base of the truncated pyramid is nominally 500m. the schematic drawing of the temple roof shows that the top around 68% smaller than the base. if itâs constructed going by nines, ~the~ dai bendu number, like i propose, then the base should be 504m per side, and that 68% works out to ~ 342, another multiple of 9.
the split of the temple into the truncated pyramid and the height taken up by the tallest tower puts the base at between 45 - 48% of the height, with the long shot of the temple burning from revenge of the sith putting it at about 46% of the total above-level 5127 height. going back to the nines, 46% of 999 is 459.5, so itâs probably juuuuust under 46%, putting it at a height of 459m and tranquility spire at a height of 540m.
the volume of the truncated pyramid part of the jedi temple (if it is 999m tall, including tranquility spire) would then be 8313 km squared, not including the protrusions around the entrances.
(the archives appear to take up from ~71m to ~ 117m from the roof, making each floor ~23m tall. the sacred spire is probably between 477 - 520m above level 5127)
so i was saying to jess that dookuâs pitch to rael at the end of master & apprentice doesnât sound like heâs tried to kill sidious yet. the tradition IS that the apprentice doesnât challenge the master until the apprentice has an acolyte of their own and we know dooku is nothing if NOT traditional. dooku couches the offer in terms of things that heâs learned and could teach rael, with the slip in at the end about power (70% teaching offers, 30% ~ULTIMATE POWER~, as it breaks down.
we see the first meeting between dooku & sidious in dooku: jedi lost, in 42BBY. heâs still regularly visiting the jedi temple in 41BBY, but by some point in 40BBY, dookuâs gone no-contact with the entire jedi order to the point where the high council (mace, to be specific) is cajoling qui-gon to contact his ex-master. this plays out through master & apprentice and the short story âresolveâ in stories of jedi & sith. the offer that dooku makes to rael makes dooku sound like heâs in a phase of being knowledge-bombed by sidious (instead of the love-bombing of an actual abusive relationship). at some point, dooku & sidious must have gotten reacquainted.
of course me, being me, pulled out A Timeline (mostly from my detailed5838bby galaxies timeline, though this post gets all the footnotes) to determine when does dooku start fucking around (but not yet finding out)?

yes itâs important that maceâs birthday is established. we know anakin skywalker, at age 22 (birthdate 7936.298.9 / 03.34) is the youngest ever member of the high council. thus, maceâs tenure cannot begin until after his 23rd birthday, 7928.10.22. this indicates the earliest possible date for the murder of master katri.
nim piannaâs death was within a year of her becoming a padawan; mace windu was on the council during this time. in order for her to have become a padawan in 49BBY, as indicated by her death in 48BBY, she must have become a padawan in the 7929 part of 49BBY.
ekay, mentioned in dooku: jedi lost, serves her 2 terms in 44 - 40BBY. this is after some reform has happened to the system to ensure that dynastic aspirations do not come to fruition (bon tapalo involved; ars veruna seems to no longer exist in disney!canon, as his name has been removed from complete locations and the statue atop the theed hanger is said to be of queen consort scotia belford-tapalo).
dooku: jedi lost has skor kalpana as the chancellor for 42BBY, indicating that it was he who was elected for the 7934/7935/7936/7937 term. tarkin mentions he was elected because âhe lacks backboneâ (tarkin exists in this weird, nebulous space between the legends and current disney canons by being the first âcanonâ novel, with several pieces of it being overwritten by later media, i.e. naboo having a king c. 34BBY, the shrine in the depths not being visited for ~ 5000 years).
HOWEVER: master & apprentice has kirames kaj as chancellor in 40BBY. she indicates that she is not running for reelection, planning to open an academy for the arts on shili ânext yearâ. cavan scott tweeted that he and claudia grey had âmany a conversationâ while working on djl and m&a, so it is presumed that the existence of two different chancellors during the 7934 - 7937 term is not a mistake and something happened to cause kaj to takeover for kalpana. kalpana probably vacated the chancellorship sometime before the middle of 7935.
in legends, chancellor kalpana (no first name given) was in office during the building of the katana fleet and its loss, at some point after 46BBY. later material indicates that the katana fleet was built after the stark hyperspace war of 44BBY (7933/7934). if skor kalpanaâs 2nd term began in 7934, itâs possible that he served the previous term of 7930/7931/7932/7933 and was re-elected on the promise of strengthening the republic, with the building of the katana fleet commencing in 7934 and the loss of the fleet coming midway through 7935.
counting backwards from anakinâs birthdate, this is roughly his conception date.
the mission to lenahra must take place over a year prior to the mission to pijal, given the constraints of the mission to mandalore wherein qui-gon & obi-wan & satine were on the run on mandalore for a year PLUS the additional time in which they were all off-world, as satine is said to have âreturnedâ to mandalore to rebuild after the civil war was over, indicating that the time taken up by the mission is more than a year. thus, the mission to lenahra must be in the beginning of the BBY year, sometime after obi-wanâs 16th birthday, as indicated by the author.
extrapolated from date of amidalaâs coronation, 34th grizm, 835th year of kwilaan (hereafter YK). the YK is not the naboo solar year, as that year is equivalent to 338 standard days (312 naboo days, 26 standard hours each); given that scum & villainy puts the 847th festival of light at the end of 7956, presumably at the end of the 847th year of naboo being part of the republic, then 835YK is 7944, as the coronation date was achieved simply by subtracting the intervening years between that festival of light and when amidala would have been coronated.
i just think it would be funny if it was on the original date of the invasion of naboo.
the time between obi-wanâs jaunt to lenahra in 41BBY and the mission to pijal in 40BBY must be longer than a year, as obi-wan states that he and qui-gon spent a year on mandalore with satine kryze, âalways on the runâ, after which the three were off-mandalore enough for satine to have âreturnedâ to mandalore for rebuilding the world.
rael has been on pijal for the âlast eight yearsâ. since nim piannaâs death is dated to 7929, this indicates that the mission to pijal is taking place in the 7937 part of 40BBY, as previously established with kirames kajâs chancellorship.

what it's like, in my head, whenever i think about coruscant. the temple's original entrance was probably those 320m down, with only a few levels being built up from 5000bby because of the way the 40-storey tall construction droids just gobble up uninhabited buildings (unaffordable to most) and dump out new ones. the lower levels are probably divided into 'floor-height' levels that are about 1/3 of the uppermost levels, except for the maintenance/pipes/etc ones that are full-height levels, and they're definitely counted starting from the sea floor, which is about 6 - 10km of levels. above sea level, there are about 5.4km of levels, bringing coruscant from its original 12 240km diameter out to the 17 731km worked out by star wars technical commentaries.
