I'm trying to stay as far away from the Shannon discussion because I get where those who are disabled and suffered less than stellar treatment their entire lives by the people who were supposed to lift them up come from.
I would say that both parents made mistakes, some of them could have been fatal, but Eddie is trying to make up for it.
And Shannon wanted to make up for it, she literally said she wanted to learn how to be a good mother.
Being a good mother doesn't necessarily means she has to be a wife too. She and Eddie may have been good at some point and they may be good in bed together, but a physical connection is not enough to make a happy couple. And unhappy parents make for unhappy and unbalanced children - a thing I have first hand experience with. Both as a child growing up and a school teacher.
I think Shannon made up her mind according to her last conversation with Eddie that she wanted to learn to be a better mother.
I also think she died before she had that chance to prove herself, and that is what bugged me.
I think Christopher deserved to have both his parents in his life, that may have started as horrible examples of parents but time made them smarter and better, he deserved to have a chance to get to know what it's like to be supported and raised by both parents, together or apart.
I am a buddie fan, but buddie has no standing here. They could get a divorce and still raise Christopher together. Just like Rachel and Danny in H50.
Shannon's deserved to live if only to have one female on the show that wasn't a main one that managed to get redemption for past actions done as a young, inexperienced mother.
Personally I was conflicted in 2x17, because talking to my sister we both agreed that Eddie deserved to be left to his own devices, at least until Shannon's mother either gone into remission or died of her cancer. But Shannon could and should have taken Christopher with her, I know I would have taken my child with me and that is the one main thing I couldn't forgive her for.
In 3x15 I understood her better, but still could not understand how she could leave her child behin even if it was with his father/grandparents.
When I say she deserved better, I mean she deserved a chance to redeem herself, she deserved to do better by Christopher, she deserved to be happy with Christopher and raise him, properly this time.
Because the show may have presented Christopher as a well adjusted child, but no child that I came across in my over ten years as a teacher, no matter how well adjusted he/she was, ever got over losing a parent, at any age. It sticks with you well into adulthood.
So in reality, I don't think just about Shannon here, I really, mainly thinking about Christopher.
Eddie, Buck, the 118 firefam, extanded family, and any ill advised girlfriend/stepmother that will come along, will never fill the hole, where Christopher mother used to be.
They will help, they will make sure he is happy and healthy and safe and loved.
But he will always miss her, she will always remain the woman who left, because the writers didn't see fit to give her a chance at redemption.
Phew, this was heavy, and long, hope it made sense eventually. If you managed to get this far thank you ❤
Have a lovely Sunday everyone 🤗🤗
