The plain truth is that the world’s opinion is worth nothing in matters of religion. About the price of an ox, or a horse, or a farm, or the value of labor, about wages and work, about money, cotton, coals, iron and corn, about arts, and sciences, and manufactures, about railways, and commerce, and trade, and politics, about all such things the men of the world may give a correct opinion. But we must beware, if we love life, of being guided by man’s judgment in the things that concern salvation. “The natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness unto him” (1 Corinthians 2:14).
