Can you yap about Tonks and Delphinium please? How do you hc them (like their personalities etc) individually and how did they get together and what's their dynamic?
Hiiiiii YES ABSOLUTELY thank you for asking! Get ready for a LONG YAP session here because I LOVE THEM.
Okay so I hc that Tonks meets Delphinium (she goes by Fina or Fie a lot of the time) at Auror training on, like, day one, and Tonks tries to make friends but Fieâs got kind of a difficult backstory with her family life and stuff that makes her automatic response to strangers be âdefend thyself!â and so she says something rude back. And then Tonks is like okay you know what fuck you then. Two can play at being rude. And so theyâre rather antagonistic towards each other for a long stretch of time as Aurors-in-training, and they avoid working with each other and are petty towards one another on missions, much to the annoyance of the other Aurors in training in their group who are like âGuys.. Work together. Be adults. Youâre giving us all Ă bad rap here.â
But Tonks being the sweetheart they are (I hc Tonks as non-binary or genderqueer and any pronouns btw) eventually sort of make their way into Fieâs heart, especially at a certain point when they're the only two of their group available for a mission and so get paired up and the bad guy theyâre supposed to apprehend turns out to be a figure from Fieâs past, who starts trying to guilt trip Fie about abandoning her family and pretending to be some big shot when all she is is just the same as all of them, which causes Fie to freeze up and get hit by a curse. Tonks tries to stun the guy, but he gets away, and by that time neither of them are strong enough to be able to Apparate, so they sort of take shelter in some door and Tonks hesitantly gets Fie to let them heal her a little bit, and when they finally make it back to the Ministry Tonks visits Fie every single day while she recuperates and they get to talking and realize that they have a lot more in common than they thought, and each other are actually really kind in ways that the other didnât expect. Some of the other guys in their Aurors-in-training group wonât stop bothering Tonks, trying to screw with her metamorphmagusism stuff and leaving stuff for her to trip on, telling on her to Moody, etc, and wonât stop using her first name, and when Fie heals and sees this she stands up for Tonks, and after that they're friends.
Youâd expect that sweetheart Tonks would be the natural good cop in their relationship, but it turns out that sheâs actually an amazing actor and loves to dramatically monologue, whereas Fie is quieter and loves to watch her, so they fall easily into a good cop (Fie) and bad cop (Tonks) routine, and soon enough they're pretty much inseparable in missions and in daily life. Fie falls first, watching Tonks trip on their face and wax poetic about a suspectâs cruel eyebrows, and Tonks is blissfully unaware until one day when theyâre sitting in the sun together somewhere and the sun catches juuuust right on Fieâs face and Tonks is like âohâŚ.. wait fuckâ
So they graduate Auror training together and become fully fledged Aurors together and become Auror Partners and theyâre so painfully obviously in love with one another that their colleagues are like âhow are you not seeing thisâ and keep trying to hint at one of them that they like the other, then vice versa, until one day Fie decides to just go for it and very bravely and terrifiedly asks Tonks out and Tonks goes blank for a good minute and then is like âYES ABSOLUTELYâ. And they get an apartment together and adopt a cat named Wolsey because theyâre both really into Dr. Who and then the cat turns out to be vaguely magical and they have to figure that out. Moody makes them separate their Auror Partnership because he thinks lovers make bad Auror Partners, so they get partnered with other people, but they still live together and see each other at work every day so in general, they are extremely happy together.
I hc Tonks with a quick temper and a rebellious streak, but ultimately and unabashedly an absolute sweetheart. Fie is harder to readâ a lot quieter than her girlfriend, and with some past stuff that she still hasnât fully sorted through yetâ but when she trusts you, you can see her genuine kindness and how much she cares about the people around her underneath all that. Fie is a secret nerdâ Tonks is an out-and-proud nerd. Tonks meets Fieâs parents once and both end up forbidden to return, but Tonksâ mum and dad love Fie and are super supportive of their relationshipâ they gave up trying to control Tonks long ago. During the war, Tonks joins the Order of the Phoenix (theyâve never been good at hiding what they believe in) and Fie becomes a spy inside of the Ministry, falsifying Muggle documentation forms and sending back information to the Order through Tonks.
Eventually, her boss and other higher-ups hear rumor that sheâs dating Tonks, which is problematic both because that means sheâs a lesbian, which they despise, and also because sheâs in cahoots with an out-and-proud supporter of Dumbledore and the Order, so they plan to fire her, but Dumbledore comes up with a plan that everybody sort of agrees to (in the way that people tend to do with Dumbledoreâs plans). Fie, he decides, is too important of an asset for information from the Order to lose. Therefore, Tonks will get married to someone else (her close friend Remus Lupin who sheâs worked with in the Order, who is running from prison under the new administration for not only being a werewolf but also the Big Gay, so by marrying Tonks he can stop worrying about one of these legal pressures at least), thereby falsely dispelling the rumor that Tonks and Fie were in cahoots. So Tonks moves in with Remus and Fie works alone for a while, as a spy, all by herself. Tonks and Remus end up adopting an orphaned kid during the war, and they name him Teddy.
When the War is over and ALL OF THEM HAVE SURVIVED, and Tonks and Remus stay legally married for a while to hide from the law but both get âmarriedâ to their respective partners (for Remus, Sirius Black) in pretend ceremonies, and at Tonksâ and Fieâs Sirius narrates the entire thing like the âmawwiageâ guy from the Princess Bride and Wolsey the cat is the ringbearer. Then, in 2014 when gay marriage becomes legal in the UK, Remus and Tonks get divorced and Tonks marries Fie (Teddy is the ringbearer now) and Remus marries Sirius. Teddy grows up happy and coparented by two sets of gay parents.
And Fie and Tonks live out the rest of their days happily married and when they can no longer be Aurors they work in the Department of Magical Justice together, and when they can no longer do that they retire to an apartment close to all of their friends and family and become ridiculously adorable old lesbian ladies with way too many cats and binge all of The Owl House even though theyâre too old for it. They are the old women at pride marches who give you (consensual) attack hugs and encouragement. And theyâre adorable. And itâs amazing.
