For my #birthday this year, I decided to start a fundraiser for #TransOhio a local organization that educates, advocates, and supports #trans people in Ohio *LINK IN BIO* I chose this organization to raise awareness and show support for the #transcommunity because as part of the #LGBTQ + spectrum, we must uplift and encourage one another’s bravery and freedom of self. Violence and discrimination against trans people, especially trans people of color, is at an all time high. Unfortunately, transphobia is an issue within the LGBTQ community; trans people of color deal with the intersectionality of misogyny, racism, and harassment. We cannot fight for rights when we refuse to acknowledge and champion the rights of our own people. We would not be celebrating #pride if it weren’t for trans people of color like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera. Let’s say #love and uplift one another because we are all beautiful 💕#transrightsarehumanrights🌈 #translivesmatter #blacktranslivesmatter #folkslikeme #youarebeautiful

When I stumbled upon the HONY facebook page about 4 or 5 years ago I thought it was one of the most interesting things I’ve seen in a long time. To go inside the mind of ordinary folks in the midst of everyday life and delve into their minds and stories is extraordinary. The most amazing people are not just celebrities it’s the people amongst us, the quiet ones, the ones who have been through struggle without telling anyone. HONY highlights all of that and more. 

I have decided to start writing down my goals and be as specific and targeted with it. I have neglected my Folks Like Me blog and haven’t had a chance to interview the amazing people I have met but I will defenitly try to continue.

Got to have two separate interviews with these wonderful ladies regarding the black female body and what it means to be an African women!!

So how deep can the social media impact run? What are your theories?

One of the final scenes in this doc. is about mother who has experienced terrible tragedy yet still, through the power of God, has been able to keep pushing forward through it. She truly represents Folks like Me, and I think it’s wonderful the J.Cole got her on film to share her story. Almost a million people have watched the doc. on Youtube and that is a million folks whose lives have been affecting by her words and this documentary as a whole. Thank you J.Cole for casting a light on people and stories that media would never give the light of day!
