Folks like me Like Social Media: How deep will its impact go?
For someone like me who is working to enter the music industry as a performer, it’s always important to understand the back end of things. On the most basic level, you have your artist and your label the pushes the artist to gain mass appeal. The label would essentially assist in making your brand/business/music as internationally recognizable as possible. Thus making the artist profitable and the label a lucrative industry. Now since we are in the social media/digital age, how much do we really need labels if at all? You have extremely successful artists like Chance the Rapper  being successful without label backing. Folks like him have utilized the internet and social media in such a way that Labels are dying to profit off of him. It goes so much deeper than that but I’m wondering what other industries besides the entertainment/media/communications industry have truly felt the impact of social media. I’m really interested in having interviews with people who are in completely different industries yet have noticed the impact of social media. I’m curious if there are still folks out there who are still even opposed to using social media.Â
Folks like us (meaning Millennials and young folks) seem to talk about social media in a superficial manner. However, there are people who believe that music labels will be OBSELETE in the future and that’s a huge idea to meditate on. Much of that has to do with social media.
So how deep can the social media impact run? What are your theories?
