More hours of sanding later... my Keith dagger is DONE! Now just to build its sheath.... Dagger is made from foam board! (See 2 posts back for details) Process of prepping and finishing blade after the shape is made: 1. Wood filler WITH HEAVY USE OF WATER to fill the gaps in the foam (since foam is very porous you need to prep it before painting - you could also do paper maché at this stage). *PRO TIP: only fill and prime areas that are going to be shown; since the handle is wrapped, I didn't waste filler in that area! 2. SAND THAT SHIT DOWN (I use 80 grit sand sponge then 150 grit sandpaper and then 300 grit sandpaper) 3. PRIME AND SAND AGAIN! (I used gesso primer and then 300 grit to smooth and 1500 grit to buffer) 4. Base coat of paint. (I used a matte black acrylic.) 5. Metalic paint (metalic black for the hilt and metalic silver for the blade) 6. Detail! (I mixed the two metalic paints to make a medium gray silver fire the inner part of the blade. Wrapped the handle using a double folded bias tape in tan.)
