Made these during a particularly slow shift, enjoy

a series of headcanons fabricated by @megatraven and yours truly (in chat form)

about Arin’s penchant for ~steamy romance novels~

and also what that implies for their relationship with FMC 👀

me: so i imagine Arin hasn't has much time to date, so a lot of their ideas about romance comes from media. i’m going to say that they like the works of, say, Jane Austen.

but consider this: what if they secretly really like less highbrow stuff too. what if they have some ~steamy romance novels~ stashed in their office somewhere

and when they have titles like THE DELICATE VICE and HOW DARK MY LOVE and tag lines like "Their affair was twice forbidden—but they couldn't give it up!".... they must hide all evidence of those books ever being in their possession

so they're wrapped in brown paper bag covers and hidden in the bottom drawer of their desk where no one would ever see them

but just imagine FMC somehow accidentally finding one of them and being all. "UH. i feel like i'm... seeing something i wasn't supposed to....."

Meg: FMC is lowkey judging until she ends up reading it herself and cant stop—

me: but she can't stop reading. Arin walks in on her and just. blushes. she sees them blush for the first time ever—

Meg: FMC clears her throat and slaps the book shut and they exchange a very awkward goodbye and she thinks the convo is dropped

and then the next time Arin sees her they try to talk about it and its Terrible but so so funny

they kind of awkwardly shuffle by each other not sure what to say until Arin is like "So..." and FMC is like "Sooo....." and it peters out before Arin breaks the ice and is like "about that book."

and FMC is like laughing nervously "what book? i've never read any books. what even is a book, anyways?" and Arin is like just digging a deeper grave so they just

"the one you found in my office? Wet and Wild: What do you get when you cross a viking with a navy seal? The one with explicit sexual—"

and FMC is like Dying and shes like "I KNOW WHAT BOOK IT IS PLEASE STOP" and they shut up and she shuts up and it’s so SO PAINFULLY AWKWARD

and then Arin is like "but did you like it?"

and FMC is actually ready to walk into the ocean and never return but she says ".......... i couldn't tell, i didn't get to finish it."

and Arin super lowkey takes it out of their bag and hands it over and FMC is blushing up a storm (they both are, really) and says ".... thanks"

and Arin is like "tell me when you finish and we can discuss—"

"NO! We will never speak of this again!"

Arin laughs a little and they’re like "ok ok"

then like a day later FMC shoves the book back at them and she says she liked it but she says it angrily bc she’s embarrassed

let Arin read to you in their ~silky, dulcet~ tones

this would probably be in the context of tutoring; maybe FMC learns better hearing it out loud, so Arin volunteered to do it for her. unfortunately, she’s not taking in any of the content because she keeps getting distracted by the sound of their voice, and their scent, and their proximity

at the end of a passage Arin asks FMC what she thinks so far and she's just, “wha?” and she gets all flustered when she realizes she's been CAUGHT IN THE ACT OF NOT PAYING ATTENTION (to the right thing).......

at some point, they notice FMC has gotten distracted. she's looking at them with hearts in her eyes, and they smile. their tone goes lower, they move closer, and FMC doesn't notice until they’re Right There. she's blushing something fierce but doesn't move away, and neither do they.

FMC suppresses a shiver as Arin moves to finish reading the passage in her ear and FMC—she's a goner. when Arin finishes, they sort of just trail off and the air is still and the world might be frozen for a moment—
