My co-worker opined this morning about her aunt (mom side) and her uncle (dad side) posting this crazy GOP stuff too. Said co-worker is a lukewarmish Republican who is pro choice and likes to think of herself as anti racist and pro gay, and she has no idea how liberal I am, so I am trying subtly to work on her without arousing suspicion that I’m doing so. This complaint was literally first thing out of her mouth this morning, so I was like ��

She says this propaganda is so full throttle all the time that it makes her not want to participate or pay attention to newsy stuff at all. So now I have to think about how to still reach her with my subliminal democratic messages lol without pushing her the last bit of the way the WRONG way.

I am so bad on this. I need to get back to doing my recs. I had a whole “Best fics I read in 2017” post going in my drafts and then I got behind and then it was February and I felt like a slug and then it got buried ugh. It’s still in there somewhere even!

No, of course no one did that. Some people just get pissed that unlike them, we don’t all heave a sigh of relief and start wedding planning anytime he touches a woman in public. (Because to do so would be and is fucking ridiculous.) You know this, I know. But I just ������ at the usual reactions from the usual corners.

The white fanboys I've heard talk about it are all, every one, blaming it on TLJ being released so close to Solo.

So none of the whining about those of us who don't like kids is going to move us, and I don't know why y'all are bothering to lecture us about this. Also PSA: if you are getting divorced or going through custody battles, STOP BRINGING YOUR KIDS TO YOUR ATTORNEY'S OFFICE for fuck's sake. You all would not BELIEVE how many people do this. Bring in three rowdy kids and their mommy. Make your mother stay home with your fucking kids. Or in the car.

I’m not even going to argue with this one beyond asking what the everloving fuck is wrong with you that you aren’t ashamed to admit on the public internet to a stranger that you are so lacking in basic empathy that it’s not occurred to you that people don’t drag their kids to their divorce lawyers’ office for funsies.

The thing is that with the exception of the social safety net, everything in American public life caters to kids. They are not some put upon group of humans with no rights or privileges. There's a reason why "think of the children!" became a sarcastic, mocking tagline (because e.g. it's been used to justify running gay people, working women, atheists and adult businesses out of public spaces).

This is just objectively not true, like climate change denial levels of untrue.  I mean the framing is so weird: what does “with the exception of the social safety net” even mean in practice?  Like, fuck the bottom of Maslow’s hierarchy kids. 

Children make up 24% of the US population but 34% of the poor people and 23% of the homeless people in the US are children. Households with children in them are significantly more like to experience hunger and 1 in 6 children in the Us experience hunger at some point during a year.
