Wait wouldn't bakugo feel disgust towards deku and deku would feel rejection towards bakugo? I feel like the other way around wouldn't make any sense
nah, it makes perfect sense.
Bakugou
Conceit - excessive pride in ones self. Bakugou was constantly told how amazing he was growing up. everyone told him how awesome he was, how talented he was, how much better than Izuku he was, and it gave him a huge ego, and he still suffers from being too prideful in himself, even after having that pride be beat down during the first exam
Awe - Bakugou knows that Izuku has a lot of potential to be an amazing hero, and heās scared of that. heās been scared of Izukuās potential since they were children and terrified that one day, Izuku would surpass him. thatās why he started bullying Izuku, because he thought that even tho Izuku was weak, there was a chance there of Izuku surpassing him, and he hated that. and no matter how many times he tried to push Izuku down, he always got back up.Ā
Rejection - he refuses to believe Izuku can be better than him, because thatās how he was raised. always being told he was better, Izuku always failing next to him. he doesnāt want Izukuās help. he doesnāt want Izuku to be around him, or to be better than him. he thought Izuku had been looking down on him since they were children, and thatās the one thing that seriously pisses Bakugou off--being thought of as weak by someone. so he refuses to acknowledge Izuku as an equal in any way (also a reason he started bullying Izuku).
Izuku
Envy - Izuku is envious of Bakugouās natural gifts and talents. Bakugou has always had a really amazing quirk, he was always able to do things before everyone else, heās naturally talented and gifted and smart. and Izuku was envious of that, because he had none of those. he wanted a quirk, he wanted to be that amazing, and heās envious that Bakugou has it all when he doesnāt. he had to work twice, three, four times as hard as everyone else, to even begin to reach the level Bakugou is at.
Disgust - Izuku is disgusted with how Bakugou ated in this arc, when Bakugou absolutely refused to work with Izuku to win, saying heād rather lose. one thing Izuku admired about Bakugou was that Bakugou refused to give up, even when the odds were against him. but here heād rather lose than work with Izuku, and Izuku is disgusted, angry, and disappointed by that behavior.Ā
they have the potential to win if they work together, and Bakugouās entire ideal of what a hero is is based on always winning. but heās willing to throw all his ambitions and ideals away if it means he has to work with Izuku to achieve that, because he dislikes Izuku that much. and that disgusts and disappoints Izuku.
Inferiority - Izuku has been abused and bullied by Bakugou for nearly his entire life. Bakugou always made sure to tell him how weak, inferior, and unimportant Izuku was, and how amazing he was. of course this would give Izuku feelings of being lesser than Bakugou.Ā Bakugou has an amazing quirk, heās got amazing reflexes, heās naturally talented and gifted, and he makes what he does look easy. and Izuku.... never evenĀ had a quirk.Ā
when he first got his, he had to work his ass off to be able to get into UA, and during the Heroes vs. Villains exam, it took everything he had to win through the rules of the game, because he knew he could never beat Bakguou in a one-on-one fight (at that point in time). and after that exam, he runs out to find Bakugou, and tells him how he now has this borrowed power, but one day heāll make it his own and DEFEAT Bakugou, on his own terms.Ā
the reasons he finds Bakugou amazing are also the reasons he feels inferior towards Bakguou, and Izuku wants so badly to become that amazing one day.
so yeah, i think it makes perfect sense
