Here's how I made my fly rod carrier if you care. - 1.5" schedule 40 PVC 10' (cut to your rod - longer means more possible flex) - 1.5" threaded coupler (connector marvel with nut) - 1.5" slip on cap - Plano ammo box - sheet of foam - 1 3/4" hole drill Drill a pilot hole in the bottom of the Plano ammo box. Use the 1 3/4" hole bit to drill out the hole. Use sandpaper or a dremel to widen the hole a tiny bit. You want to be able to thread the coupler into the hole so it for a a snug fit. Do a test fit. It it's how you want, remove the coupler and paint if you desire. Add silicone to the rim of the ammo box and the threads of the coupler. Screw in the coupler and screw on the nut so that it is as tight as you can turn it. Let it dry. I always use super glue as a backup on PVC and plastic. I used white duct tape and "wrapped" the PVC pipe to make it more appealing. Use PVC glue (the purple stuff) on the end of the pipe and slide one end into the opening of the coupler. Let dry. Add a silicone seal. I use the Rhino Rack shovel bracket to mount it to my truck, but there are numerous ways to mount it, use what works best for you. Add the cap. I chose not to glue it on so I can remove the unit from the shovel bracket I am using. You will notice in one of the pics I added a piece of lexan as a brace just because I wanted the case to stand up a little more. Not needed. Cut the foam sheets to fit the ammo box (inside is 4" x 9") and cur a hole to accommodate the coupler nut. Use spray adhesive to permanently fix the foam. I bought a little lock to use while traveling. I may try to find something a little smaller. I've made 1, 2, & 3 rod holders but this is the cleanest one by far. Enjoy.
