About five years ago, we began our journey into the animal rescue and rehab world with #flutterthebird and it has been so incredibly eye opening, heartwarming, fulfilling and rewarding. I’ve met so many professionals willing to mentor me and public willing to assist and make a difference for the good of the world. A couple of months ago a baby hawk was sent to me. It had been attacked and born with deformities but had an immense will to live. Half of its face had been scared over and bloodied with an infection that had sealed its eye closed. It’s feet were useless as it’s claws couldn’t close and we’re curved backwards. It would scootch on the nubs of its ankles. Teleconferencing with the team of vets, it was so incredibly mangled that they first told me it was a Rio Grande Wild Turkey. Spending hours daily with it nursing its infection and teaching it to balance on its claws, then walk, run and perch… “turkey” grew its feathers and clearly showed us she was a chicken, a special needs chicken. And a very loving hen with a personality fit for this Barajas family. The hardest part of being a rescue/rehab/foster family is letting them go when they’re healthy. Turkey was released today to a very loving family with other chickens so she can grow up to be the best chicken she can be. Turkey may be different from all the other chickens in the world but that only makes her more awesome! Thank you Malik for offering to love and nurture her! #turkeythechicken #birdrescue #birdrescuer #itwasntahawk #bawkbawk🐔 #stfrancisofassisi https://www.instagram.com/p/CecXPuau1xk/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
