And I think the way I ship them is:

-Riddle being maximally terrible little Teapot Tyrant for two years

- Floyd, seeing this, thinking he's the most adorable thing ever, and continuously flirting with him in his own special way (which anyone else would classify as straight-up harassment)

- Riddle getting better, and eventually realizing that Floyd's feelings are genuine despite his terrible communication skills

- Riddle being so affection-starved that he falls right into a relationship with someone who seems like the worst guy possible

- everybody is like "no what this is a horrible idea"

- It turns out really good for both of them, actually just disgustingly wholesome

"Thanks, Goldfish~!" Floyd cheers, bad mood washed away like it had never existed. "Here, here. Help me out, yeah?" She turns around, back to Riddle and crouches down onto the floor flipping her hair back over her shoulders hurriedly. Riddle steps forward with a deep sigh as she realizes just what the other expects her to do. Lacking a hairbrush, she instead begins raking her fingers carefully through Floyd's mane until its all pulled back into the low ponytail she knows the mer favors when in her dorm uniform. From there, the scrunchie wraps easily around, and Riddle takes a moment to admire how the red looks against teal locks before realizing what she's doing and letting go hurriedly.
