Promise me that you never regretted your choice. Shinsengumi. (Drabble)
OKAY ! After my little week of fluff, finally some angst ! I kind of missed writing angst because I really like it (please do no worry my mind if fine).
It was inspired that the art HEREÂ drawned by @flower-dragon ! You told me such kinds words so I really wanted to write something for you. Okay, thatâs not a happy story AT ALL but I thought you would like me writing something about your art ;) youâre amazing and I hope this little story will keep up with your drawing ;D
I wrote it directly in English so I hope itâs fine ;) Itâs 2AM please be kind xD
She looked at the dreadful picture in front of her. Her eyes didnât want to accept what she was actually seeing. Her mind didnât want to comprehend what was happening in this place even if her nose already smelt what she hated the most in this world: blood and guns, blood and blades, blood and deaths. Everything was linked to that red liquid which sole usefulness was to keep us alive. And here it was, already splatted on the field, making the beautiful and peaceful green colour she loved disappear and be drowned by it. Here it was, showing to the world that the ocean wasnât only blue; it could be red of blood, red and composed of dead bodies. A horrific reddish ocean on an island called Ezo.
The brown-haired woman didnât move yet, almost looking for a living being around here. She knew it. Nothing was alive. She knew it. No one escaped. Except her who had decided to bear the responsibility of her fatherâs behaviour by choosing another path. She never thought of the consequences of her own acts: now she was too late and she couldnât save a single thing. Could she save someone in the first place? Had she saved someone once? Maybe yes but she didnât remember. All she could see in her memories was her pitiful self who had to be saved by the others. So would this awful sight have changed if she had decided to stay with them?
The young woman started to walk slowly, letting her boots feels the dead ground she was stepping on. She could hear the sound of the dried grass at each footsteps and the sound of some ravens which were completing the monstrous scene she had already entered. The close sight was even worse than the large one as she could see the details of the dead bodies surrounding her from both sides of the conflict. Some of the men were killed by gunshots; otherâs with bladesâ cut and the worst one were dismembered by the explosions. That was horrific but she couldnât stop walking. Not yet. She felt like she would fall if she even stopped for a second. She would miserably fall and cry as she always did.
She thought that her nightmarish view would fade out as she continued her path toward nothing. Towards where was she walking in the first place? Did she honestly believe that she would find something alive here? The demon woman didnât know for how many minutes she was walking but she was sure of one single thing: nothing had changed. Bodies continued to be laid on the ground without any kind of colour on their skin or air in their lungs. Just motionless humans whose lives have been deprive by a war which killed everyoneâs heart. A war that killed her mind and her will. Could she walk away from here without any empathy? Could she create a life worth it after all the events?
Her endless questions about her future and her past continued to travel her mind with such speed that she forgot them every time she changed her subject. All of the sudden, her gaze caught something she thought she would never see again. The young woman changed her direction, walking now towards an object. Not a simple object. As she arrived in front of it, her legs abandoned her and let her fall as she had predicted when she arrived in the island. She was suddenly trembling, all her body being controlled by her the sadness and the despair she was feeling at this exact moment. She knew that nothing could be done.
The young woman didnât even know when it started but she was already feeling her cheeks being soaked by tears. Gently, she grabbed the white flag in front of her, reading in her mind the red word written on it. She would have loved saying it out loud but her voice already left her. She couldnât believe it, the flag was ripped apart. It was a symbol of hope; it represented all the men who went to war with bravery and yet, she found it lay on the ground in such a state. She finally hugged it as it was the last thing she was going to touch in her life. Gone, all of them were gone but she was still here, watching the blue sky with the flag in her arms and the tears on her face.
Promise me that you never regretted your choice. Shinsengumi
Hello!
I was kept thinking about your recent drabbles about Kazama in your modern AU Omega Nu Iota, especially âCrimsonâ and âForgottenâ. Honestly, I started to feel for this guy in his sorrow/desperation. I imagined how messed up he must be after Chizuru rejected him, sitting at home with that bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, clinging to his phone and thinking of calling ChizuruâŠ.because he knows she is irreplaceableâŠ..
(Sorry I had to share! Hope you donât mind)

For the 3 men names game: Aragorn, Anders and Harada?
Can't I just marry all three of them? No? Fine, if I have to choose I would sayHusband: Aragorn. (He was my first major crush on a character)Best friend: Harada (he would be such an awesome best friend)Brother: Anders (this man desperately needs a caring family)Thanks for the question!
Would this idea of any help for a drabble: "You canât protect me.â For your OC Manami x Harada?
Okaay ! This drabble is really short but I hope youâll like it :D Itâs angst again but I think it fits the dialogue ;)
Thank you so much for the idea, I love writing for others :D
My clothes were drenched in blood, so was my hair andface; my skin feeling almost used to the ugly sensation. It smelled; I smelled. The night was full of beautiful star and here I was, still on edge and notbeing able to calm myself down. I could still hear the words I heard beforekilling all those men. âGonzaburo Manamiâ. That single though made me punch thetree in front of me. Once, twice, three times and endlessly until my own filthyblood mixed with the ones I already had on my skin. Why? Why? Why did thatnickname even come back to my life? Why was he coming back? It was a ghost thatwould never leave me alone right? My hands hurt as I continued punching thetree; I couldnât stop, I wouldnât stop. Not until I felt a big hand surroundingmy wrist in a forceful way. I still looked down, knowing who it was, not wantinghim to see my hidden tears.
âManami! What the hell are you doing?!â The tall manshouted as he tried to turn body so I could face me.
I wasnât a rag; I wouldnât let him. I pushed my nailseven further on my destroyed skin and put all the force I had to prevent him. Iwas tired. Enough tired so he wasable to overpower me and made me face him. When did I become so weak so Icouldnât defend myself? âGonzaburo Manamiâ. I heard it again and lifted my headto see him. I was imagining again, Harada Sanosuke couldnât know about this, noone did in Tokyo and no one would. Iâd kill them if they did.
âExplain now. What the hell are you doing? Wait, whatthe hell were you doing out in the night in the first place?! Why did you comeback drenched in blood? Why did you kill?â He asked without letting me a momentto answer. He knew I wouldnât answer but he maybe thought he could use mytiredness did he? He was right, I was pissed off and I couldnât think anymore.
âIt doesnât concern you. Leave me alone!â I shouted back,my voice getting pitched by my craziness.
âIt doesnât concern me? Who the hell are you jokingwith Manami?! You get out of the headquarters without telling us a word and youcame back on edge, shouting to us to leave you alone and now punching a tree?Do you really believe I can leave you like this?â
âWhy are you doing this? I have my own reason, canâtyou understand that?â I reacted, not being able to control myself anymore.
âYou fought alone against I donât know how many men!How do you want me to leave a woman-â
âYOU CANâT PROTECT ME!â I shouted, cutting hissentence and freeing my arm.
Mybody started breathing heavily as it was releasing itself from all the tensionI gathered. On the other hand, Harada looked shocked as he didnât try toanswer, his eyes never leaving mine. I then understood the meaning behind mywords and quickly regretted them.
âWho are you running from, Manami?â He gently said ashe put his warm hand on my cheek.
Ijust looked down and brought myself closer, putting my forehead on his torso asa way to calm myself down.
âPlease, donât ask. Not now.â I simply answered withthe smallest voice I have ever used.
