Race sighed, leaning back on the couch and trying to stay awake as he stared at the TV. Yeah it was a Friday night, and he had no homework and nothing to do and almost fell asleep throughout his whole day at classes, but why would he go to bed now?

He forced his eyes open as they slid shut again, moving into a more uncomfortable position in an effort to stay awake. He tried to direct his attention back to the movie, but he was so tired. And, he thought, he didn’t want to fall asleep on the couch, because Albert would surely find him in the morning and laugh at him for falling asleep on the couch, but it was far too much effort to get up and walk all the way down the hall to his room. So he continued forcing himself to stay awake every time he started to drift. It was probably only 11:30 or so when Albert flooped down on the couch next to him and hit the power button on the remote, turning off the movie that Race had mostly given up on watching.

“Albie?” Race said, his voice somewhat groggy, and sounding completely sleep-deprived.

“C’mon, Racey, you need sleep.” Albert coaxed softly, pulling Race up off of the couch, ignoring his soft whines of protest as Albert led him down the hallway to his room.

He crawled into his bed, sinking into the warm blankets, but calling out as Albert turned to leave. “Stay?”

Albert turned back, and smiled, crossing the room and snuggling up with his boyfriend. Race smiled sleepily as he drifted off, feeling warm and happy, cuddled up with his wonderful boyfriend, and finally getting some sleep for what felt like the first time in a while.

Aaaaa this is probably absolutely terrible but I tried? Saphie’s whole series is much better than this is buuut here we go!

Race and Albert stood outside of Davey’s office, neither wanting to go in first.

“You first.” said Albert, eyeing the door cynically.

“No you.” Race watched the door just as apprehensively.

“No you.”

“No you.”

“No--fine.” Albert opened the door and led the way into Davey’s office.

“You’re late.” Davey looked up from his work, glaring at the two of them.

Race looked smug. “A wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely--”

“Shut up Race.” Albert elbowed his friend in the ribs and turned back to Davey. “What did you want to talk to us about?”

Davey took a deep breath, seemingly trying to compose himself, before handing Albert a file. “Your first mission.”

Back at their apartment, Albert opened the file, skimming over the minimal details inside. “It’s a rogue terrorist.” He said, reading the short description. “Our job is to catch him.”

Race flooped down on their couch, grabbing one of their disney movies and putting it in the player as Albert made Race a coffee and himself a hot chocolate. He sat down next to his friend and continued to peruse the details, sipping at his hot chocolate.

“How do you like that stuff?”

Albert glanced up, surprised. “What?”

Race nodded at the hot chocolate. “That stuff is disgusting. How can you like that?”

Albert put an offended expression on his face. “Just because you like bitter hazelnut coffee doesn’t mean we’re all savages.”

Race drew back. “I’m hurt, Albie. A savage? Really?”

Albert gave him a one armed hug. “Yes.”

It was much later that night, after Albert had listened to Race sing along to all of Tangled, and then all of Frozen, and half of Mulan before he found a 76% photo match to the terrorist whose picture was included in the case file.

“Race, I think I found--”

“HOW COULD IIIIIIIII MAKE A MAAAAAAAANNNNNN OUT OF YOUUUUU!!”

“Race.”

“BE A MANNNNNNNN WE MUST BE SWIFT AS A--”

“Race!”

Race stopped his live performance with full out dancing of Mulan and turned an innocent looking face towards Albert. “What?”

Albert rolled his eyes, beckoning his friend over. “I found a match.”

Race walked over, joking mood somewhat gone. “Do we have a location?” He asked, scrolling down the profile of the man Albert had found.

Albert nodded, but then paused. “This says he’s…. At the weapons lab?”

They both froze. “Let’s go.”

They sprinted out to their small beat up car and drove hurriedly down the road, pulling into the deserted lot at the weapons lab after persuading the sleepy security guard to let them in.

“Where would he be?” They got out of the car and crept across the lot, entering the lab, and noticing a shadowy figure at the far end. They looked at each other. “Race, stay down and I’ll try to get him, okay?”

Race shook his head vehemently. “Albie no, we have to take him down together. You can’t get him on your own.”

Albert paused, but knew Race was right. Together, they moved between the racks of weaponry that ranged from throwing stars to missiles, and Race took aim with a knife that would pin the man’s sleeve to the wall and hopefully distract him long enough for them to get over to him and detain him.

Albert froze. Something wasn’t right here. What was the man doing? Then he saw the round object he was holding and stopped, whispering frantically, “Race, don’t--” Race threw the knife. “--throw it.”

“Oh no.” The man was hit with the knife and staggered, dropping the grenade. Everything seemed to happen in slow motion as Albert threw himself on Race, covering his best friend, and hoping for the best.

There was a loud explosion as the far wall exploded, raining down bits of rubble on them. It was only a few minutes later when Davey showed up with the most ferocious look on his face as he glared at them, both covered in ash from the explosion and with slightly sheepish expressions at having almost blown up the weapons lab, when Race said quietly, “Well, we finished our mission.”
