The Army-Navy Game | Surge & Siebold
Mornings were always the best time of day for Surge. Â He might not believe in the whole 'early Pidove catches the worm' crap his parents had tried to force on him as a kid (which he had ignored, being the little shit that he was), but the army had trained him to rise early and be ready for anything, and he had embraced that lesson well. Â But even beyond that: he felt at his best during the morning hours, his energy high and his senses at their sharpest before the sun reached its peak.Â
With spring finally starting to warm the mountain, the weather had finally turned from gentle snow to steady rain. Â Not the thunderstorms he could look forward to with the rise of summer, but a constant downpour that quickly soaked through clothes and down to skin and bone. Â
Needless to say, while Surge wasn't one to mind this kind of weather, it wasn't his favorite to be out in.Â
After his morning patrol with Volty hiding in the relative protection of his jacket, the former Gym Leader showered, changed, and made his way through the base toward a poorly explored quarter of the facilities. Â He'd heard that there were battle arenas somewhere, and he'd heard rumors about a pool that for some reason the Grunts tried to fill with spaghetti.Â
He really didn't want to know what that was about.Â
But with the weather as it was, he didn't feel like staying outside by the lake to work with his Lanturn. Â Though they had made progress, he didn't trust the electrified anglerfish not to shock him if given half a chance.Â
So it came as a relief when he found a sign by a pair of double doors that read POOL.  And lucky for him, it wasn't a trick referring to billiards; the wavering reflections off the water's surface rippled across the walls and ceiling in the low light.  It looked Olympic size to Surge, though he couldn't claim to be an expert: more than enough room for his purposes.Â
As he reached for the Lanturn's pokeball, a splash caught his attention; the lieutenant looked up to see someone already in the pool.Â
Probably not the best time to release an electrified anglerfish.Â
"Didn' mean t'interrupt," he called. Â "You 'bout done?"
