No, I don’t really know either!

Yo-Kai Watch is always weird, and that is wonderful! We love weird here, and if you did not know that, I would be surprised that you have managed to never read or comprehend our blog title. It would honestly be quite impressive. Usually, though, YKW tends to be a certain KIND of weird. A lot of Yo-Kai are, for example, over the top, silly animated objects, or spirits that were clearly once human, but have since been warped into bizarre shapes and proportions. That kind of weird. But then there is Flocktopus!

I think Flocktopus is one of the strangest character designs of all time, and that is an incredible thing to be! It may be hard to tell what’s going on at first, so let’s analyze it!

The main thing of Flocktopus is the Octopus, which is not Flocktopus, and Flocktopus does not like the Octopus! The octopus has a heart on it because there is also kind of a heart theme going on. You’ll see. Now, Flocktopus itself is a Purple Thing! It gets referred to as an octopus as well, which is quite fascinating. Is never struck me as “soft”, its tentacles at the bottom more like fingers to me. But it does have suckers on them, and also all over its body!

Poor Flocktopus hates being Flocktopus. It is always using its massive hand to try to pull the octopus off, but it just does not work. And this is where the heart thing comes in! Flocktopus’s effect is that it grants unwanted attention that gets exhausting. I guess that can be sort of represented by an octopus clinging to you at all times! I’m glad it is. It would have been really funny if it had the power to literally make an octopus cling to anyone, but I also like the contrast of the somewhat mundane effect and the extremely wacky design!

All of these images are from the anime because it is too hard to find ones from the game. Sorry. But as we can see here, it can change the size of its arms at will, I guess! In the game, Flocktopus is not actually on the ground, but floats at all times, in a constant wiggly struggle that is quite a sight to see, which you will have to trust me about.

But the struggle does not have to be constant! There is hope for Flocktopus! If enough people work together, the octopus can finally be pulled off, freeing it from the torment (and cursing someone else with the octopus attached to them now). Now it’s just a sort of weird purple guy. A NICE weird purple guy, mind you. Not the other kind.
