When I received my turntable a few Christmases ago, the first record I purchased for myself as an adult was The Allman Brothers Band at Fillmore East, as this album was in constant rotation on the farm when I was just a little Norskie, outside playing with all of our dogs. We had a record player on our front porch and my parents would crank it up because our closest neighbors were a mile away so we didn't bother anyone with our loud jams. The Allman Brothers Band music is engrained in my mind + heart + soul. Truly. It evokes the happiest childhood memories for me. It was also a great soundtrack for my Dad driving me home for Thanksgiving break my freshman year of college + other road trips we've had. It's one of the many reasons I'm Best Friends with Erica. I can't imagine my life without the Allman Brothers... I'm so thankful for their gift of music. I'm thankful that it bonds my immediate family together. I'm saddened by Gregg's passing yesterday but happy to think he + Duane are having the best jam today in Heaven together after all these decades... Thank you, Mr. Gregg Allman, for providing the soundtrack to my happy childhood + making those troubled times manageable.
