Govt to get back 'lost' flight points from civil servants
Ā The government will get back all the flight points that have gone to civil servants flying on official duty all these years.[/caption]
Any move that can help the government save money during this period of economic hardship is more than welcome.
Minister in the Prime Ministerās Department Datuk Shahidan Kassim said the government welcomed any idea that could save it money.
He made this statement toĀ The Rakyat PostĀ on Thursday when shown a report inĀ The Rakyat PostĀ about the government losing millions of ringgit a year because flight points earned through tickets paid for by the government went directly to the civil servants.
The Rakyat PostĀ had reported on Monday that the government spent close to RM600 million on airline tickets for civil servants, but did not earn any flight points as they went directly to the civil servants.
Shahidan said if this was true, then the government must look into some sort of mechanism to get those points back.
He said any savings the government could make would be very helpful.
āI will be looking into this and raising this matter with my officers. I need to get more information.ā
He pointed out that when civil servants started travelling on behalf of the government, flight points never existed.
Shahidan said if the points could be used to get airline tickets for other civil servants, the government would be able to spend less money and make huge savings.
He added that they needed to look into how the points were valid and how they could use them.
