Memories
It occured to me that Flevance is built off Mining.
Like, I knew that, but it really just hit me.
Law's flashback paints a perfect picture of Flevance pre-illness. As it should, it's through the eyes of the child of two doctors, a respected and high paying job.
However, Flevance, as with many other areas based of mining, has a dark past well before Amber Lead disease. Mining is never humane. Even the best paid, safest Miners are subject to incredible risk and danger that is beyond the average person's scope. People get trapped, suffocate, are crush to death, die early. Labor laws are skirted today in mines and that doesn't even touch on the real world history of mining and how a lot of Labor laws were made because of mines. And considering how Amber Lead made Flevance Rich, I would say there is a lot history there that could color even further the way an adult Law looks at his home if he were to ever go back and explore the mines.
I just got Law’s Story novel and I love it so far. I gotta say though, when I read how he cured his White Lead disease I was heartbroken. A liver transplant. That’s all anyone needed to survive the disease. All of the white lead accumulated in the liver. Something as simple as a liver transplant was all anyone in Flevance would have needed. Would it be a lot of livers? Absolutely. But there was such a simple solution.
I’d always assumed the white lead was spread throughout the body and that’s why it was impossible to cure. But it wasn’t impossible. They’d probably been working on symptomatic treatment rather than eliminating the root cause. It makes the fate of Flevance that much more tragic.

Crazy how we get this whole horrific story about the fall of Flevance, complete with a century-long cover up poisoning people for profit, a terminally ill little sister who gets burned alive inside the hospital and a fucking nun and class full of children’s dead bodies littering the street after they where gunned down by a soldier who promised to help them, and then we’re told, okay, so that’s the backstory to Law’s backstory. On to the main backstory where he starts to learn how to live again only to have that cruelly ripped away as well!
The civilians you're sworn to protect.
The civilians you're sworn to bloody protect???
Like these civilians?
These ones?
These ones?
These ones?
These ones?
These
Fucking
Civilians????
.
Something what bugs me about Law centric fics,is that the focus on his past always lies within Doflamingo and Corazon, which I get is important but it's obviously not the only important aspect of his backstory.
Law had 2 loving parents and a sister. He seemed to have friends and went to school. His parents were doctors and he studied hard,to become just like them. Only for everything to come crashing down. His family, friends, neighbors , home and everything else he has ever known are gone.Taken from him due to the cruelty and selfishness of Nobles and the World Government. Now Flevance is a myth. If one were to go there, all they'd find is ruble surrounded by massive walls. The only thing left is Law.
Does he still have nightmares? Does the mention of White Lead Disease involuntary make him flinch? Does he remember his loved one's faces? Or did they fade over time? He was just a 10 year old child at the time afterall.
