Her soft laughter was lost in his mouth, in the taste of him, her fingertips brushing gently through his sideburns. She’d put the ring he’d given her onto her finger, knowing she’d meet him, wanting him to see it, to see that she was his, that she was proud to wear his ring, that she wished she could leave it there upon her finger when they parted.
The ring glittered in the candlelight as she smoothed her hands up, carding them through his dark curls before she swept them down once more, smoothing her hands across his broad shoulders. Her senses were fully occupied. He smelled of salt air, of the sea, of musk, the press of his body against hers solid and reassuring, a safe harbor, familiar comfort. His hands, which pulled her to him, were just as insistent as his lips which plied hers, and she sank into his warmth, surrendering herself to the simple pleasure of the kiss.
