Early in November a postal employee was found injured in an Oakland California facility. 911 wasn't called for 53 minutes. Was it a technical problem? No it was policy that prevented employees from summoning help directly, and now that policy is being blamed for the reason for that workers death. What does the law say? There story there is that there is no clear law.

With 6 positions and 142,000 calls a year, they have a unique mix of loose livestock and the occasional active shooter call from the residents who are just as diverse. Human-caused hazards include accidents, acts of violence by people and acts of terrorism. Examples of technology-related hazards are the failure or malfunction of systems, equipment or software.

Certainly one of the oldest hacker conventions on the planet, and by far the largest, is the DEF CON event held in Las Vegas. 2014 marked the 22nd edition of this event, but it also had some significance to the public safety community. Did we just let the Genie out of the bottle?
