Flathmaw History!
In Flathmaw, humans are lowly and rare creatures compared to the various species of spirits that prowl the lands. The fall of humans began when the first known spirits - the low tree spirits - began to push back for their land; the land that humanity was bludgeoning for their own personal gain.
Humans, being humans, were not happy about this and war began to plant its nasty seed. The humans felt that all the land was their right, something they owned, simply because they had never encountered another english speaking species within 'their' lands, so they began to push back and war officially broke out during the winter of 1236 B.E. (Before enslavement, a vulgar human term) when a particular nasty group lead by Alfric Noreigh, later known as Alfric the Peace Breaker, burned down a burial nest and publicly executed the current queen, Brithiva Morbre. Queen Morbre's son was later executed, leaving no heir to the throne and plenty of room for the Falkner family, previously a family of medium status among the royal tree spirits, to take control. Alfric was hailed as a god in the human realm.
The new king, Maxime Falkner, used this attack to further his own personal agenda and he managed to rally up the other spirit species (snow, water, sky) to further push humans back into an increasingly small area and keep them like cattle in stocks. King M. Falkner made various visits to Oceania, Bipedor, and even made a public speech in Flathmaw square to rally up spirits and whatever humans would fight for him and the spirit lands. All kingdoms but one joined Maxime in his quest, a small population of lowly spirits took control of a small portion of land and handed it over to the humans to use however they pleased. Provided that those lowly spirits be integrated into the society, the humans begrudgingly accepted and worked to add them into human society thus the creation of the first spirit-human alliance. Eventually, every group capable of fighting was dragged into the protection of spirit lands by King M. Falkner and a lot of death and destruction occured; so much so that the spirits have full days of remembrance for those who fought for their land and the destruction of humans.
Humanity was forced into submission and given little land, riches, and power. It became a habit to mark human children at birth so that they could easily be recognised and removed if they were to wander into spirit territory on accident This is how it’s been since then; only a certain type of tree spirit is allowed within in human lands and humans are only permitted onto their lands, as well.
