Song of the day
I'll fly away by Flatfoot 56
Album: Toil (2012)
I've got a soft spot for "life is toil and trouble and we're low-key looking forward to shuffling off this mortal coil and resting with God" sort of music. While my own belief in an afterlife is a lot less secure (and actually, eternity sounds terrifying, even in paradise, so let's not) and I could take or leave the "with God" part of that theme, I find the positive spin on memento mori deeply comforting when life is overwhelming (or, for that matter, when I get caught unprepared by immortality discourse cause for some reason this happens to me way more frequently than I'd like). I also really enjoy the joyful energy these guys bring to this classic from the 20s.
15MAY25 Enjoying Flatfoot 56 album "Odd Boat"
I may fall and I may fail A thousand times and in a thousand ways I may stumble from my path and go astray But like a thousand times before I get back up Drag myself from the floor Step by weary step I'll make it through
@itsme-starmunch is making some real nice lyric posts relating to Ian and Barley, and I love them. I want to give Star a song I like called Brotherhood by Flatfoot 56, but it's a really really REALLY loud and chaotic song because it's Celtic punk (so Barley would LOVE IT)
So instead, I'm going to post the lyrics, and leave a link to the music video if you do wish to listen
As I walk through this land,
I remember the boys who took a stand,
Who stood there strong when things got rough,
They would shout and scream at the things that were tough,
No weapon formed against them would live,
A punch to the face, a kick to the rib
Their cause was justice and they strove to be pure,
All of hell shook when their knees hit the floor,
Never look back never give up,
There's someone behind who will pick you up,
I got a sword in my hand and I'm ready for the attack.
Raise up the flag let them see,
Our creed is a symbol for those who are free,
We fight against evil, we fight against sin,
Our battles not outward, our battles within.
PS, I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but if Pixar got a Flatfoot 56 song or two in a possible Onward sequel or series, that would be freaking awesome
