#flat bug

@lishd submitted: Hello favorite! So this guy showed up randomly, already deceased, in the middle of my bathroom countertop in Seattle, WA. I’ve never seen a bug like him, and would love to know what he is (or was). Fortunately, he doesn’t seem to have a billion housepest friends, as I haven’t seen any others. He’s teeny tiny, just a few millimeters long, so I hope these photos are clear enough. Thanks!

And last but not least, a huge male snakefly (females have long ovipositors)!!!! So cool to find this one, I've only seen one in person once before in my life!

Flat bugs are true bugs (Hemiptera) found throughout the world. Many feed on fungus, though little is known about most of their biology.

Here's a flat motherfucker called a Flat Bug.

This little guy just randomly flew onto my computer screen the other day.

At first, I thought they were a beetle of some sort, but upon closer inspection, I worked out they were a Hemipterid.

1800 species of very flattened bugs, distantly related to stink bugs, and of little economic import. Only a few have been studied, but they’re thought to feed on fungi and can be attracted with bark beetle pheromones.

In milder climates, Aradids are most often found under bark, as were the half-dozen I found here. In the tropics, they may live in leaf litter, or be found on fallen branches. Tropical species are often apterous.
