“You look nice.” Manuel flexes his fingers a little bit. Calm, calm, calm. You’ve done stuff like this before. (But never with a person, always with an object-something for retrieval.)

Barry smiles back, blood dribbling out from between his teeth. “They interrupted me on the way to a date.”

Manuel picks his cuffs, twining their fingers. “Can you-”

Barry shakes his head. “Something about the walls dampens my powers.” He grabs Manuel’s shoulders. “Are you a-I mean are you-”

Manuel presses their foreheads together for a second, closing his eyes to block out the sight of the bruises on his boyfriend’s skin. “I’m not. I’m the original.”

“Then you gotta get out of here,” Barry chokes, clinging to him tighter. “If CADMUS gets to you-they have all kinds of cloning projects, they’ll think you’re so useful… I can’t let them…”

“We are getting out of here,” Manuel says. The door locks shut behind him as soon as he says it, and he suddenly knows he jinxed them.
