"She's been conflicted because she grew up understanding one narrative and then her life kind of blew up when she found out her mother was secretly still being a vigilante," showrunner Beth Schwartz told TV Guide. "Then seeing the old team and sort of connecting with Connor and Zoey and William and sort of establishing this new kind of team — she's the daughter of Oliver and Felicity so there's a hero naturally inside of her, so that's what's starting to come out."

“We thought it was really interesting to introduce something new that was unexpected. Instead of taking everyone we knew from the present and seeing what happens in the future, we thought it’d be really cool to introduce a new kind of character. As a result, in addition to having JJ, [John and Lyla] adopted Connor, and we’re going to see that unfold more in [Episode] 19 (airing April 22), in terms of that relationship.”
Make no mistake, John Jr. also exists in the future, and “we’ll explain where he is” in an upcoming episode, says Schwartz, noting that the brothers share “an interesting dynamic.”

It has been 17 episodes already and I’m still asking myself why I didn’t saw anyone talking about Felicity’s new glasses. I like them btw. But I have a slight issue with the fact that she’s still wearing them in the flash forwards.
@felicitymqueen posted these on twitter. The Spartan symbol is the symbol for Knightwatch. I know 'Knightwatch' exists in DC, but what if John and Felicity set it up. He's her 'Knight in shining armour' remember? She's Overwatch.
What if, after everything goes to hell in Star City, OTA and Lyla set up Knightwatch as a way to still try to do good in the city, but in a more official capacity, since vigilantes are outlawed. Maybe the newbies aren't included or they turn it down.
I think we'll see the origins of this in the upcoming episode 'Spartan'. This could be John's version of Team Arrow being 'something better'.
