So while this last episode of Flash was a tragedy, can we talk a little about Papa Allen? Like, how he āput 2 and 2 togetherā to figure out Barry was the Flash. Iād say there was a missed opportunity hereāyet again involving Iris. It should have been *3 things* that clued Henry into Barry being Flash: 1) Saving Joe 2) Breaking out Julius and 3) TheĀ fact that IRIS WEST is the first person EVERĀ to get a pic of Flash!Ā Iris West, the love of his sonās life. Henry would be like āOf course, she would be the one to get the first pic. My boy aināt never had no chill or subtlety about his love for this womanā¦of course āFlashā would be in her orbitĀ tooā. It should have been these 3 things. Each one highlights theĀ most essential things that make Barry the Flash:Ā His relationship with Joe, Henry and Iris. Damn you show. Sometimes Iām really disappointedāthere is soooooo much more potential for this show to go deeper into itās storiesā¦deeper into how these relationships tie togetherā¦and they still just scratch the surface to make way for fake drama and triangles. Ugh.

Going into her place of work does seem weirdly deliberate. Especially because most people, if going to pick someone up from a lunch date, would meet them outside. Instead of walking in, going past security, and then standing in the bullpenā¦

barry's going to her job, a place that right now is not some communal space like jitters is, and is not a space they both share, like the west house, but a space that so far has been the site of her ace journalist journey, for me kind of meshes with the physicality he displayed in ep 11, where he entered the west house and threw his coat on the couch and stretched in front of irisĀ like a cat that wants to be pet. like, it could be read as a continuation of him putting himself on display for iris. I'M JUST SAYING.
(to be honest i'm kind of worried about linda; i don't want barry to hurt her in his quest to move on from iris. that's the classic in-love-with-my-best-friend (or just in-love-with-someone-else in general) dilemma, isn't it, that you always end up hurting people and, like, having collateral damage?)
you can never underestimate the importance of place in a story.
so if the object was for iris to be jealous, it would have been better if barry left for a date with linda from the west home while iris was there. then if she questioned him what would be highlighted is that she's back home again instead of at eddie's apartment (herĀ apartment, now, since she moved in with him), and that she has an expectation of barry being there with her.Ā because the thing is, she has legitimate reason to ask why he's at her place of work if it's not to see her. at the newspaper he presumably doesn't know anyone else, so it makes sense for her to ask that question (like, is he there to interview someone for a case he's working on?), while if she questioned him while they were at home it would have actually been out of place and way more telling. as it was done, i'm more focused on the fact that barry went to her job to pick linda up than i am that she asked him who he's there to see. that seems strangely deliberate, on his part. very messy barry, very messy
