The war was at its highest peak, there was fighting in every corner of the galaxy, it was rare to find a peaceful, safe planet nowadays. Both sides wanted the war to be over but for very different reasons, the Galra Empire wanted domination of the entire galaxy while Altea wanted peace and freedom for everyone. Hence there were two alliances, those who sided with the empire and those who sided with Altea.

Out of all the planets Altea was only one who could really stand a fighting chance and win the war, thus spearheaded the fight against the Galra empire. The Galra empire hadn’t been tyrannical at first, if anything they had been a fighting race. At least until Zarkon took power, united his people by making promises and thus begun a war for complete domination of everything.  

It has been many years now, and the Altean alliance still needed allies and those allies sometimes could be unexpected ones. From within the empire itself there had been descent, there those who worpished Zarkon and his ideals and those opposed his rule and way of doing things. This fraction split and became a resistance, calling themselves the Blades of Marmora.

Very recently they came into contact with Altea, requesting an alliance. Altea accepted out of need and this is how Lance, the second, youngest and only male son of king Alfor of Altea found himself accompanying his father on a diplomatic mission to cement the alliance.

“Why couldn’t Allura come with you father?”  Lance asked as their shuttle began to make its descent towards the Blades’ base of operations’ docking station. Their ship laid in orbit awaiting for orders.

King Alfor smiled. “You know why.” Lance’s older Allura sister was the heir and being the heir meant protection from possible threats. And his father wanted Lance to learn diplomatic skills to better aid Allura during her reign. “Now, make sure to do your best to charm them.”

“Get off!” He throw Keith off of him. Surprisingly, for someone who didn’t fight often. He sure as hell knew how to fling someone. He stared at his opponent with a blank expression. He lacked the personality that he had once had from his time in Voltron. 

It’s what happened when you’re imprisoned for so long. 

     Dinner had been a quiet affair, tense between the two of them. At least, Lance had thought as much. Despite the moment they’d had earlier that day, despite the way they’d held each other as they fell apart -- 

                                             ( and hell, wasn’t that embarrassing? ) 

     -- Lance still finds a small part of himself disbelieving it ever happened. They’re meant to rendezvous at Lance’s room tonight, and, as drops his dishes in the sink and says his good night’s, momentarily catching Keith’s eyes, he has to wonder if they’ll actually go through with it.

“I did not trip bringing them over here if that’s what you think” he replies with a laugh, glancing at the few remaining flowers in his hands.

“Yeah...” Shiro’s disappearance hit everyone hard. The clone could feel it. Everyone was quiet and sullen, not to mention much more snappy than usual. Shiro wasn’t dead but he wasn’t here, and that might as well have been the same thing.
