@flamaeterna
an opportunity of a lifetime ━ that was what 3DV’s ad had so arrogantly claimed. & naturally, being the video game-obsessed nut her own parents had threatened to disown if she didn’t grow up quick and finally, after a hard-won battle, become a productive member of society, she’d believed it ( hadn’t even thought to question its cleverly worded statement that this new gaming system was steps above virtual reality. ) maybe she should have. maybe she should have done a little more research on the ENIGMACORE, a system they were planning to release to the public in one year should the tests prove successful. but it was too late for second guesses or regrets now. because stupid her had let the stupid thing near her stupid head, where it had latched onto her neck like a leech ( that brief pinch of pain had not done her endless supply of jitty nerves any favors ) and proceeded to transport her through the strangest, most colorful black hole she’d ever had the misfortune to fall through ━ not two seconds after she’d stupidly succumbed to curiosity and hit the START button on the game she’d chosen specifically for the beta test, which ironically had its own version of EC ━ except not in the gaming sense. god, she was screwed. ❛ i’m so screwed, ❜ kira muttered aloud as she, with her arms and legs spread out in a rather ridiculous caricature of an experienced skydiver, continued to free-fall through time and space of an unreality she just knew she wanted no part of.
what was that annoying thing people liked to say?
oh, right.
if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
before that entirely-too-pessimistic thought had time to settle, however, the pretty multitudes of color surrounding her suddenly brightened ( to an unnatural degree, causing black spots to dance merrily across her vision as her poor brain tried to reorient itself ), before coalescing into a wide expense of blue, peppered here and there with white and grey ━ oh. oh, shit. were those clouds?
❛ oh, crap. crap, crap crap, ❜ she squawked and flailed her arms, the high-pitched mantra following her descent, all the way down to a random pile of hay that just so happened to be stationed underneath her, as if on purpose; the red head ( dyed, not her actual color ) let out an undignified screech when her flailing body suddenly met the surprisingly large pile of cow chow, which thankfully cushioned her fall. ❛ saved by cow chow. ❜ she grimaced, silently thanking whatever gaming deity was responsible for this clusterfuck for at least giving her something to break her fall ( & not her body. )
yeah, thanks, buddy. you’re a real lifesaver.
cue sarcasm.
but of course, it didn’t last. because, well ━ her curiosity was just too damn difficult to curb on a good day. & this most definitely didn’t qualify as one. her head surfacing from the sea of dried grass, kira couldn’t help but peer around at her surroundings in wide-eyed shock dread wonder; her very medieval surroundings. ❛ oh, shit. ❜
