Assignment 4: The Flag Race Challenge

This assignment was honestly super rough for me because I’m not as creative and couldn’t come up with a specific design for my flag. At the end of the day, I ended up my flag and I enjoyed so much making this. Riannah and I decided to meet up at the panther because since she lives in the dorms at FIU, I feel like it was going to be better doing it someplace convenient for the both of us. I went to the Mango building and she went to the health building and from there we both walked like about 5-7 minutes to the panther and I made it first than her, making me the winner! I feel like this project was in a way collaborative since we both had to record ourselves walking to the point where we were both going to meet up and then obviously had to put the videos together and make one video! Once again, I really enjoyed this assignment and I think it was a great one to end this semester.

Title: True Art Guild Banner

Dimensions: 5' x 3'

Materials Used: Old bedsheets, purple costume fabric, yellow costume fabric, green costume fabric, white costume fabric, broomstick, 3-foot wooden port, black acrylic paint, white acrylic paint, spray-on fabric glue.

Statement: when creating my flag for the Flag Race Challenge assignment, I made sure to pick colors and symbols which represented my own life and what it means to be an artist. The three major symbols used are that of an eye, a chameleon, and a shield. The eye symbolizes the importance of observing and taking in the world around you, thus improving mental visual libraries. The chameleon symbolizes the importance of being able to adapt to any situation no matter what, while also being a rather colorful, artistic looking animal. Finally, the shield represents the endurance required to be an artist in the modern day, as one must be willing to fail time and time again for a chance at success. The colors used are mainly purple, yellow, green, and white. I chose green and purple because they are my favorite colors, yellow because it complements purple with extreme contrast, and white because it symbolizes purity and peace. I believe I was successful in my execution, however with more time, I would have made a better stick to hold the banner, and also a higher quality product.
